What's the deal with Royal Purple? Anyone using it? Some of my buddies who were very loyal to Mobile 1 like me have switched... I know nothing about it.

I just know my 1995 Jeep Wrangler has only had Mobile 1 in it and it has never once had an engine issue (minus the water I sucked in once). I've been loyal to Mobile 1 since I was 16.

I think we overthink oil a bit.

Its like top tier gas. The top few brands are all pretty damn close in terms of performance and most of us dont or physically cant take oil to the limits anyways.

With that being said for cars and trucks I use Mobil 1 oil and filters because its priced right and readily avalaible. Have for years. Bikes are a different story.

I did an initial oil change at ~1800 miles to get rid of the break-in oil; replaced it with Motorcraft semi-synthetic 5W30, and a Motorcraft filter. I'll likely take it to the stealership for its scheduled oil changes, just so there are warranty records.

While I have been having good luck with my truck so far (knock on wood), if I end up with a catastrophic failure of some sort I want to be able to tell Ford to check with their own dealer for maintenance records.

Totally understand that point of view. Do you know what oil they use?

The user manual specifies Motorcraft semi-synthetic 5W30, with an option to use full synthetic in the same weight (also Motorcraft branded). If I were to guess, I'd say that the dealer would default to the semi-synthetic and offer the synthetic for an up-charge.

I wonder WHO makes Ford Motor Oil and Filters? I know it's not them....rebrand, as is MOST brands we all use daily (Manufacturing at a national level is hard and there are few companies that do their own.....take car waxes and wash. Most are barrels made by big chem companies and the 'rebrand'er' adds a goop or requests to add a goop and call it their own).
