Looks like you had a great trip. My friends just got back from Baja 2 months ago.
When they had set up camp and were getting ready to cook dinner just past San Felipe, a couple of locals came over and and asked to borrow their wives. My friend declined. About a half hour later my friends started to receive incoming rounds though their camp. They exited quickly with their vehicles leaving all their gear and strait lined back to the California border.
I'm glad your trip went well but I don't think I will be heading down their anytime soon.

Ive lived in Baja in 2009 and 2010 and ive been driving the Baja since 2008. I would say I have between 60-70 full Baja trips under my belt and 1/2 been solo. Just like any place in the US certain areas have certain criminals. In the US you are more likely to encounter armed Suspects then down in Baja. That been said. I personally avoid San Felipe and surrounding areas in a camping manner. San Felipe has been involved in a serious Chinese syndicate involving the swim Blatter of a fish called the Totaba. Its a free for all on selling and exporting the fish that has resulted into a black market which the fisherman bring their fish onto the beaches at night to avoid capture from the Military. If those men were firing shots at your friends or maybe Military close by... obviously its serious either way but if they got close enough to ask permission for their wives they could of got closer with their guns if they had actual intent. I had a 12 Guage pointed at my head in San Diego.... I didn't move out of San Diego.
