Current manufacturers do not even require/recommend "break in periods" since they have now become obsolete. However, I still broke mine in properly, but that's only because I'm ****.

Check the first few pages of a f150 owners manual. For my 2010 it's on page 5, they do still suggest it but it's nothing compared to what breaking in an engine use to be. I agree it's not as needed as it use to be but I always break in anything I own with an motor because it's cheap insurance. I guess you could say I'm **** too.

sounds like ethanol every gal has it same with oil synthetic is in every gal. too much of a good thing is never good. but I like me some e-30 with a hint of synthetic in the oil. I'd never complain about slipperiness jamming a piston in and out of a tight spot.

Curious..

After reading all of this post, several have said they change oil every 3000 or less and they're using synthetic. Why?? What driving conditions are you in that you need that frequent of a change??

I worked for Valvoline for a while, and I noticed something about oil change interval recs. The vehicle manufacturer tells you to change at 7000 miles, and they'd like to sell you another vehicle. The oil company says 3000, and they want to sell more oil. I figured the actual best is probably between the 2 somewhere, and since I'd rather buy more oil than lose compression, I usually go about 4000 on semi-synthetic and about 5500 on full synthetic, assuming normal driving conditions.

Barring extreme conditions, I wouldn't change full synthetics close to 3000.
