At the risk of being lit up like a christmas tree ...

What is Amsoil and why would I use that over Mobil 1?

In my opinion (mechanical engineer) you did more harm in not breaking in your engine properly than you would by going synthetic. Unless of course you didn't keep a constant speed that 1600 miles, I don't see too many people on the freeway in new cars going from 40-70-40-70...etc. Modern engines are made pretty well, they don't require a lot of the "old school" thinking to keep in good running order.

I called up my Ford dealer this morning to ask about the recommended oil change intervals.

I got my Owner's Card in the mail yesterday and it states to go 6 months or 7500 miles before first visit.

I want to run synthetic in my truck but the deal said that I need to run regular oil for 15,000 miles to give the seals and gaskets time to "Settle" in otherwise I'm opening myself up for leaks if I go to synthetic this soon.

FYI: I have 2,100 miles on it. 1,600 of those were put on it in the first two days from driving it home from El Paso to Rochester, MN.

Any and all advice/input would be greatly appreciated.

Good God-----What Idiots!!! The best built cars in the world come with synthetic as factory fill for example. Do not talk to the Idiots at this place again!

Current manufacturers do not even require/recommend "break in periods" since they have now become obsolete. However, I still broke mine in properly, but that's only because I'm ****.

I wonder why my 2010 FORD Shelby GT500 doesn't leak past the seals? I mean, it came with Synthetic oil from the factory.

Hit your dealer with *that* little tidbit of fact and see how he tries to explain it to you.

It is your truck, so your decision, me I had mine changed to full Synthetic when it got delivered to my dealer, then at 2000 had it changed to Mobil one and a Ford racing oil filter. Next oil change it will be Amsoil Oil and Filters from now on, one thing that I am gratefull to Ford for is that my Raptor and the Wife's Expedition use the same weight of Oil so I will buy Amsoil in bulk and save money

Synthetic oil is factory fill from some of the Best built engines in the world. The additives used in Mobil 1, Amsoil and a few others are way better for your engine break in than any old school oil

I am wondering whether that BS from the dealer had anything to do with service at the dealership or a service agreement. Service departments are where real dealership profit is made, not on the showroom floor.

I usually wait for a few thousand before switching. My reasoning is that I change the oil and filter every 1k or so for the first few just to be on the safe side. Regular, high quality dino oil is a lot cheaper to drain into the pan every few weeks than the $7 a quart stuff. The dino certainly isn't in there long enough to break down which is one of the big benefits of switching to syn. FWWIW, I use Mobil 1 in all of my stuff and have nothing but good to say about it.
