I just want to clarify that all my comments about working with the mat are in relation to the factory rubber mats. I do not have the weathertechs and don't currently have the intention to get them in the future at this point. Honestly, I'd solely focus on making something that works with what comes from the factory. It's a bit much to design a product around another aftermarket product that a customer may or may not have.

The only real "bugs" to be worked out would be associated with the mounting to the floor. There isn't really a viable option for that as I understand it, other than ******** to the floor. The piece that would allow the floor mat to be removed for cleaning would still need to be mounted to the floor for the best stability, but moving forward on that part, it will be hard to fabricate that piece in such a way that also allows the floor mat to rest flat against the floor. It is very very tricky indeed.

Not really. I designed and fabricated the solution in a mere two days with nothing but standard garage tools to work with. I didn't even draw the thing out. The result is a solidly mounted pedal (3 nuts on existing factory bolts) that mates against the step in the driver's foot well, and hinges out of the way for ease of cleaning. No bolts through the floor, and it doesn't move unless you want it to. This is not rocket surgery.

That sounds awesome. Where are the other bolts that you found to mount the pedal to? I would be interested so see some photos! You know the rule of the internets, pics or it didn't happen!

Sent you a PM - with photos, so you'll know it happened! :)

Looks like solid work. I agree, nothing like some Yankee ingenuity. I have no doubts that the wooden pedal will hold up for you, and I like the tread modification you made to it. Really turned out nice.

So yours isn't mounted to the floor either? I agree, your solution works well for you. However, to design and fabricate a workable solution for the "market", meaning one that will satisfy as many of the requested features and options as possible while keeping it viable for mass production is indeed more than a two day job. With so many people out there that are as concerned about fit and finish as they are about function, most would not accept ordering a product that was thrown together in two days. It could also bring up future issues if it failed, broke or caused some other issues. As businesses trying to bring a requested new product to the market for anyone and everyone that wants one, these are considerations that have to be made and those usually take a lot more R&D time than most folks realize. Your dead pedal is cool and it works for you and possible others that may want to put it together for themselves, it just wouldn't be viable for a new product offering from a business.
