We end up with around 500 pounds in the back between the RTT, bed cover, and all the gear for 3-4 days of camping (dispersed camping in the desert, not hotels or campgrounds). That’s food, water, and comfort for 2 adults and a dog, plus some tools and self-recovery gear. I would definitely pay attention to zombiekiller’s advice on light weight and simplicity, and I would add a focus on keeping things clean and dry.

I’ve never found bed racks to be that practical for real overlanding/camping - all they give you is a place to hang things on and do nothing to actually protect your gear. A good tonneau cover or full bed cap gives you protected and secure storage space. Nothing is going to keep out all of the dust from the road, especially if you are on desert trails like us, so you will probably still want some water/dust tight cases, eg pelican or similar to keep your stuff in.

last year I picked up a ROAM RTT and Wilco rack. I love the RTT thing but if I were to do it again, I'd go with a hard shell. the soft shell thing is a little tedious to set up and tear down. I've had the pleasure of doing that in a torrential down pour and in a pretty nasty ice / snow storm.... not fun.

I also pull the rack / RTT off when it's not needed... like summer time in Texas. it's also off for when I'm out doing "raptor things"

my best advice is pack light to start and add / subtract gear as you venture out more.

Excellent advice. Figure out what you need based on how you camp and where you go, not what looks good on paper.

I do a lot of camping (Mostly days as a time) and I also pack a lot of gear. My truck definitely sags but the truck still runs amazing. I still race through the desert the same way I would if the bed was empty. I do a lot of crawling, tight trails in sand, mud, rock, you name it and I don’t have a problem at all. I’m going to upgrade the suspension but Id like to see what the stock ones are capable of first so I’m pushing them as hard as I can.
Here’s what’s in my bed when I’m camping.

•Roam Adventure Co Vagabond tent
•Roam Annex for tent
•Decked bed box
•ARB Elements freezer/fridge with ARB slider
•Yeti 65qt
•2 Maxtrax MKll

•5 lbs propane tank (For HotTap and Grill)

•Hiking gear
•Drone gear

My decked boxes are completely full with other stuff also.

When I first started I packed a lot of stuff. I didn’t want to be out there and realize I’m missing things that I needed. Then it was easy to see what I actually used/needed. With every trip my load got smaller and smaller. Now I use every piece of gear that’s in my truck and I’m not luging around dead weight.

I see you have a winch, is that an ADD bumper?
