Is it normal to have power loss in heavy sand?

Conflicting comments on the Towing mode so far...
So is it established that the traction control is never fully disabled unless the towing mode is disabled also?

I don't remember T/A mode being any different on Traction control. I'm pretty sure mine would turn off either way. Now in ORM it will over ride T/A mode, but I didn't like ORM and ran mine in manual with Traction Control fully off (button down for 10sec+) shifting manually, sometimes T/A, and keeping the RPMS up 3500+ most of the time.

I remember reading/hearing that Ford doesn't fully let the motor run until like 3000 RPMS. It holds the butterflies from fully opening and robbing HP and TQ when you really need it, but then again it could be mostly due to the power just getting in the sweet spot.

I know really wishy washy answer and I wish i knew better :Grenade:

Actually much appreciated answer ...
But revving it 3500 would have to be for a limited time (short dunes) in order to stop overheating I presume

I know for sure 2 raptors ran all 43 miles at one time like this and had no issue some extra temp was gained but I was still along ways from getting it hot.

First off, Tow/Haul mode is not the same as Trailer Sway Control. Tow/Haul is controlled by the T/H button on the shifter. It's totally separate from what we were talking about with Trailer Sway.

That being said I think what you really meant to ask was if Traction Control is truly disabled in conjunction with disabling Trailer Sway Control..... And the answer is yes.

When you FULLY disable Traction Control (holding button for 10 seconds until dash gives confirmation) the Trailer Sway Control is automatically disabled too.

I know that's not a very well written explanation, but I think you guys get what I'm saying.

To me your problem sounds like your not fully disabling Traction Control. Make sure your are holding it until the icon flashes 3 or 4 times on your gauge cluster (about 10 sec.), not simply just pressing it.

That is done ... the posts above clarify that ... this is a pure sand driving issue with the Raptor it seems

Are you pressing and holding for 10 seconds? That's how to disable it totally on the 2010s. Can't say for sure if that works on the later models though.

BigJ I have disabled mine like you said, but there have been a couple of times when I was spinning the tires that I notice it started flashing and the trac control kicked back in.

no I've noticed it on grass it just don't shift down when in off road mode you really have to hold the traction control down a long time seems like an hour

I've noticed one thing just messing around my town, if you only fully disable traction control, you can burn the tires off. But after you drive to the next sign or light it kicks it into sport mode instead of fully disabled. Might be when it reaches a certain speed? Also noticed if I put it in ORM its stays fully disabled.
