Why does it get louder over time?

The reason the Magnaflow gets louder is because its a strait trough design with a perforated pipe and insulation to absorb the sound, as the insulation and perforations get plugged up with carbon over time it looses some of its ability to deaden sound,

It depends on the size Magnaflow muffler you get. I had the short one and it was loud after a few months with terrible drone. It also depends on where it is sitting under the truck. The farther back the better for not having the drone.
I replaced it with the 30" and lost the drone and also lost the rumbleing sound that came with it. You could definitly hear the 18" coming but the 30" is quiet a bit quieter. I am hoping the 30 inch gets a little lounder but not having the drone is why I switched over. I also got better mileage with the 30" when I added it. Approx. 1 mpg with the 87 hiper 5 star tune.

The magnaflow is basically perfect it purrs at 1800-2200 rpms (pulling from a stop sign or red light) then really gets nice and throaty when u want it to (getting on the freeway). But it doesn't overpower the natural engine noise (when u get up to 4400-5400 rpms)

Very interesting...never would have guessed that but it makes sense.

It's a little bit deeper tone, not much louder. To be honest, I was really disappointed with mine once I installed the kit. I ordered up a section of stainless steel pipe, and did the resonator delete, and that made a world of difference.

I now love the sound!
