Is the R using any kind of stock bumpstop? I cant tell from that pic. Also would be nice if I could find a decent pic of the truck from the side with no bedsides on.
You can see something is welded to the frame in the pic below, now it could be nothing, or this could have been a test truck that had the same bend issue the Outlaw guy's had and they decided it would be a perfect platform for the R to be built off of


Robby is extremely hard on his trucks. I'm not sure about the 90K rear end though. Look at Geiser's, they are the #1 truck out there right now and MANY of them break every race.


If it's made out of metal if can be fixed.

If enlarge the picture and look real close to left of the of the circle you made, it looks like you can see the top of a bump stop in the can. I may be wrong, but it sure as hell looks like one.

My rear bumpstop

Pic of my rear bumpstop. Build date in 04/2011.

Looks to me like it's there to beef it up.

Are you saying that you can't/shouldn't weld on the frame? I'm not following you here?

The frame might have been heat treated after the factory robotic welds that closed the box and secured the gussets. It looks rather thin to support add-on structural welds, even expertly done. Just my opinion.

Side note: my production schedule this afternoon "might" include an order of .192" thick 960 XLF with heavy hot-dip galvanizing. If someone wants to try fabbing bottom plates to shield the bump stop sections, I should be able to get a set or two. Measure the width/length that would be a good blank size.

Debate, depending on what Outlaw comes up with I might give you a shout about some material. I've boxed 30s-40s street rod frames before so boxing/reinforcing the Raptor isn't out of my ballpark. You are not too far from me.

grain direction

Cool. If the order hasn't been decoiled, I'll cut 6" x 24" sections. Probably orient the grain in the 24" direction; that would match the Raptor frame. There is also .163" stock, but the weight saving would be neglible.

I'm thinking about using this to replace the factory bump stops. There's a good chance my truck will have a bed full of oak to haul and the shelf on the spacer block looks kinda mean.

I'll post when the samples are ready.
