get a new frame

OK, one more pic of the frame.

Any repair braces for that section would involve drilling more holes or, even worse, field welding on the medium/light gauge HSLA frame. Some things can't be fixed.

40 hours dam... Hopefully the body mount bolts don't break...LOL... Ive had that happen to many times... They can be such a pain in the ass to remove and Ford dont pay for that...

At least one cage/J nut/***********/horse-shit-ford-design body bolt always spins when taking a cab off a super duty for 6.4 repair. And of course Ford always tries to **** you over on extra time for that. One more reason for me to avoid working on diesels.

Last frame job I witnessed was on a Tacoma, and I gotta say I was impressed with Toyota on this one. Some of the new-ish Tacoma engine mount perches would shear off letting the engine flop around. This particular truck had a 4+ inch lift. Not only did Toyota hardly bitch about the fact that the mid-front cross member on the frame had been cut out to accommodate the front drive shaft for the front diff drop, but they paid the tecs doing the swap STRAIGHT TIME to cut and modify the new frame cross member for after market lift.

Are you saying that you can't/shouldn't weld on the frame? I'm not following you here?

Looking at the R, wouldn't you encounter problems if the factory bump stop location was used and the frame did bend upwards in the crumple zone like the Raptors pictured? I realize after its been caged the frame is relieved structurally quite a bit. But its still there/used to tie the upper half of the cage together. The distance that the down tubes are welded at would shorten as the frame bent more, putting the upper half of the bed cage in a bind. Wouldn't something eventually have to give as the binding got worse?
Is the R using any kind of stock bumpstop? I cant tell from that pic. Also would be nice if I could find a decent pic of the truck from the side with no bedsides on.
You can see something is welded to the frame in the pic below, now it could be nothing, or this could have been a test truck that had the same bend issue the Outlaw guy's had and they decided it would be a perfect platform for the R to be built off of

Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't Ol' Robby break the $90K rear axle in the red bull truck first time out??? Just goes to show everything can break........
Robby is extremely hard on his trucks. I'm not sure about the 90K rear end though. Look at Geiser's, they are the #1 truck out there right now and MANY of them break every race.

Some things can't be fixed.
If it's made out of metal if can be fixed.

Very true, but wouldn't you agree that most of that damage is from the driver just pushing the truck way beyond its limits. Trust me I understand being in the heat of the moment and trying to go for glory (no ****) and sometimes you get lucky and others.......well you wish you would have used your head more, lol

Agreed.
And how do you find those limits, you push the truck to hard and break it, now instead of going 100% you only go 80-90%. The other option is you enjoy the desert and only go 50-60% and make it to work the next day. But if your going to go 80%+ you need to get the truck caged. I can't express that enough

Where did I see the SDHQ frame gusset? I cant seem to find it and need to show it to someone

I dunno if the R had bump stops or not. It just appears in those two pictures taken at the debut, it did not have them, or at least not where the factory Raptor has them. Iirc from Foutz website build pictures, the R started life as a brand new regular non Raptor F150. I've been looking at other Raptor set up's, like the two that ran the Dakar, and the two eco boost torture ones to see what they did in the rear, but its hard to find good clear pictures.

My truck has this on both sides and looks like it's been there since the factory. I've never been off-road and have 4,000 miles on the truck and my bed is not angled. My frame is made with the buldge to accomodate the bump stop.
