Just because the engine is running partial DI during warmup does not mean it will have oil dilution issues. I have not seen any oil analysis results indicating that an issue exists. The majority of DI only engines do not have oil dilution issues either. I’ve never had my oil smell like fuel, and that’s after 6k to 7k miles.During warmup the system runs on a stratified charge mode using a 30/70 PI/DI ratio. The timing is even at -20° (i.e. 20deg after top dead center) during cold start emissions reduction mode to assist in catalyst heating. This will definitely cause oil contamination issues while the engine warms up. The fuel smell in oil is normal and unavoidable, Blackstone labs can test fuel contamination levels if you're worried. This is why many people stick to 5k oil change intervals. Also, I've never had oil starvation issues, but my truck does make a little grumbly sound on hard cornering, but I think it's one thing to do with the 4x4 system, maybe IWE or small vacuum leak. It's not really loud enough to take it in for warranty and I have a couple years left, so waiting to see it it gets worse. Keep us updated if you take it in.
Fuel contamination in the engine oil is not normal on these engines or any other engine. It is a condition that can occur due to a skewed sensor input, faulty/leaking injector, etc. It can also occur on Diesel engines that are idled excessively and cannot complete a regeneration cycle. Can somebody explain in normal english, why fuel is getting into the oil and why it's allowed in these engines, I want to learn about this stuff as I'm sure the OP does as well.
Thank you for that, it was starting to sound like gas in the oil was normal.Fuel contamination in the engine oil is not normal on these engines or any other engine.
