Your findings are similar to the truck I ridden in. I rode in his truck for 2 weeks solid too. NVM is verified!
Def an upgrade from stock BY FAR though. All these 3.0's are great shocks. It's fantastic having these options and with threads like this, can even perfect!
Thank ya NV.

Method NV/37's
Boatec front and Rear fenders
Rigid dually's in fogs
Heads retrofitted by me!

After riding in an icon equipped raptor, I'm anxious to feel Fox's. I wasn't too impressed with the icons. A little was the fact he was running too stiff of rear springs not knowing. The rear on your truck NTM, I can see why your liking the rear icons with the knob adjustability. You do know u can get fox to install the adjustment knobs on their shocks for $70 a side I believe. The rear suspension is what allows for a comfortable ride or not which I can also see y your keeping the icons for quick adjustability. Is this a main culprit why ur sticking with icons in the rear?! I'm anxious to see if you'll try fox again with rear knobs to finish off your findings.

I thought I read Fox saying they wore $69 per nob?
Another member tried them and they were blistering hot, he actually blistered his fingers on them. I was curious if the Icons got hot as well so took the truck for good hour drive over some high speed rough country roads and the knobs were not even warm. Wonder why one gets so hot and the other stays cool?

This can vary per driver too, material used for knobs, ect...... Sorry about $70 per shock, your prolly rite.
Kinda hard to compare when two different ppl are in the mix though. How long was your friend running the shocks, what terrain comparing to your findings, and were you on board with him to tell his driving style for making the shocks work. Unbiased findings would only come if all those apply exactly the same as you.
If the fox's work better, wear gloves. Heat only means one thing with shocks, they working, rite? Doesn't fox now offer a shock reservoir heat sink with fins or something ?

two trucks that were there at the last prairie city meet were running icons and both said theirs were blistering hot at the end of the day, pretty sure no matter which shocks you're running, if you run them hard enough, they'll get hot

The finned reservoir sounds nifty. Anyone have pictures?

Never mind I found it.

I'm running goodyear duratracs at 38 psi.
If you went to a softer spring rate the compression and rebound would definitely need to be adjusted.
The high rebound damping is a byproduct of the stiffer spring rate, and part of why you were seeing your truck rocking back and forth with slower speeds, rather than the suspension drooping out into those holes a bit more independently.
The stiffness is caused by the damping, but the damping is necessary to control the spring rate, if you follow me...
I was just thinking that with a softer spring rate, perhaps Dylan could build a bit more compliance into the suspension at lower speeds.

Ya I figured it would need the whole package to work right but figured I ask anyway.

After all the info in this thread I'm really toying with the idea of contacting dylan and being the test guy for new valving and springs since your happy with the fox's.

Ill have to check make sure I didn't lose any of the nuts when I took off the stockers so I can put them back on to ship back the icons. Or that idea is a no go with the truck being my DD.

I have my icons and still have no problem with them. My only question is why they don't come with a progressive spring rate??? as far as i know king is the only one the does. I have ran progressive springs on a truck before with SWAY shocks and loved it. thinking about contacting deaver and seeing what they can do unless Icon has something for us.

The progressive spring may not work well due to the digressive nature of the icons damping.
