(preface)- I know you will think I am biased since I drive a 5.4, and maybe I am...but what I have written here is for informational purposes and I hope to be as objective as possible.
So, I was "forced" to drive Xbx's Raptor to the gas station to properly inflate the tires after they were deflated for the trip on the car hauler.
Granted, I didn't stuff the pedal to the floor(ok, maybe I did once ) but I was just not that blown away or impressed with the difference between the 5.4 I drive every day and the 6.2.
This was the second 6.2 I have driven, the first time on a test drive where it was hot as balls outside and I had the A/C running so I suppose I didn't have the full effect.
But this time around, hoping for a different result...it just wasn't there. Was it faster? Definitely. Was it significantly faster? No...
I mean from low RPM up until about 3500RPM there was no(significant) difference in my opinion. It was the 3500-5500 run in 1st and 2nd that I felt a pull like my 5.4 couldn't offer me, but beyond that and in normal driving RPM ranges I didn't feel like there was much I was missing.
Also, and maybe most importantly, the 6.2 transmission shifting strategy didn't knock my socks off either. On my way back from the gas station I got held up in some rush hour traffic and the truck seemed to want to hunt for gears a bit to maintain speed. Also, and I hope there isn't anything wrong with Xbx's truck, but the torque converter seemed to engage and disengage pretty harshly which definitely sacrificed the ride quality.
I really mean this from an unbiased as possible view point: The 5.4 IS NO SLOUCH.
From now on, I will loudly and proudly proclaim that I've got a 5.4L, and feel good about keeping my truck for a long long time without feeling the need to trade "up" to a newer model with the 6.2. I finally feel at ease knowing I will own my truck for many years to come(hopefully) and that I'm not missing out on much as far as my right foot is concerned.
Thoughts?
