Question for those of you in states where you MUST run a front license plate: where did you put it, besides on the dashboard ;) ?? I'm shopping for a front bumper, but here on the left coast the chp will pull you over for no front plate.

I've seen people with them on the dash, but if that's a legit angle, then why can't we just bolt it to the flat of the skid plate, like below the 'SVC' cutout in their pic below? I'd really like to use a little motorcycle front license plate there, have one made with my numbers, if that's legit in CA? Any CHP or police in this thread area, please chime in....?

I am in CA as well, and have not run a front plate on any vehicle for 30 years now. Never got a ticket for it (yet). Definitely not putting one on my SVC bumper.

Personally I would not run a small motorcycle plate or any non standard plate, I think that is much more of an issue and likely to get you pulled over than no plate at all. They are cracking down on the recent fad of "wrapped" license plates to change the colors or make them look carbon.

On the bumper in your picture, you could easily make something to mount a plate to that angled cross member off to either side which would be legal and keep it mostly out of harms way.

Wow Kirk! You've never been messed with in 30 years?!? Lol I guess I'm just too law abiding :D !! I've always run front plates but HATE front plates! This is my first opportunity to delete it.

REALLY wish it was legit to run a little motorcycle plate on a car, but I cannot imagine Commiefornia being cool about doing anything unconventional :( !!

What brand front bumper is that in your avatar, and is it a frame cut style? Frame cut means you can't put an OEM bumper back on unless you weld on new tips right? I've not picked one yet....

Note: I keep the front plate lying on the floor, as I have to show it every time I drive on the scale at the local transfer station (aka "the dump").
Hmm, on the floor, or in the door pocket?

I just KNOW I'm gonna get a fix-it ticket if I don't have a plate on, or at least on the dashboard like I've seen others running. Maybe I'll make an actual dashboard mount that fixes it in place on the left front dash? Then at least I'll have a pot to **** in when I get pulled over :(

Oh, love your Avatar TomDirt, lets Make California Great Again :D !!

I put mine on a magnetic mount and would keep it in the cab so if i ever got pulled over, I could show them that I had just removed it and forget to put it back on. Never got pulled over in all my years in CA and within a couple weeks of being in TX, got pulled over for lacking one. Received a warning and still haven't bothered doing anything differently. I thought the whole purpose of a front plate was to leave evidence behind in the case you are involved in a front end collision and decide to take off. Not sure if that's the reasoning behind it but with a steel bumper, the likelihood of your bumper falling off is probably unlikely.
