Ya know Joe, the really cool thing is that we are both modding our trucks up the same way... suspension first for optimal performance offroad. I bet if I was driving your truck, I would be hard pressed to tell it apart from mine haha. Hope to get my RPG rods and UCA's in soon so I can add to this thread. New bumper and lights too. Great to meet you and Nicole at the Dune Run, and can't wait to do it up again next time!

Time to update since I'm finally getting on with it as ordered parts arrive.

Lil Sahara Raptor Dune Run was a blast but inflicted some damage to the truck.

Learned the limitations of running low tire pressures - debeaded the right front tire during some high speed drifting. Gave the whole team a workout fit in that sinking sand. Fortunately WSI's hi-lift jack got it up enough to get the wheel off and the spare on.

Later that night I killed my front bumper chasing these crazies around in the dark.

They had super bright offroad lighting. I did not. I thought that if I stayed real close I would be fine. Not so.

The TMX skid plate held up well. Nice approach angle allowed it to escape damage that night.

Next morning, OkieRacing found us a suitable dune, and Cody lead the way with some sweet jumps. Joe then proceeded to catch some nice air.

Then it was my turn. After a few pre-runs, I caught a nice 58 foot jump and should have called it a day. But the camcorder died and lost the landing. I had my truck-attached GoPro running, and didn't know it but Cory had picked his GoPro off the sand and caught the truck as it went by.

So I went for that last one which ended up being a 76 foot jump

Out-jumped the dune's down slope and managed to land on the left front. Hard!

Left front wheel was kicked out at an angle. Sore back (from lack of proper shoulder strap restraint) made for a long drive home. But the truck drove smooth as ever with just a mild pull to the left.

Had to get home and put it up on the rack to complete the damage report.

I was hoping the left front canted wheel angle was due to knocking loose the camber adjustment bolt (as in pic below). This had been an easy fix after happened at TRR.

Nope. Turns out I severely bent the spindle.

Got truck repaired and re-aligned right away. Didn't want to ruin my new Toyos.

Replaced the spindle with OEM, as that was readily available. Had plans to beef up the front end sooner, but.....

This was election season and after the results and seeing where it was all heading with the gun grabbers, I got a bit distracted and went on a complete tear locating and buying up my wish list of armaments, mags, and ammo. Very glad I did! The items I bought are hard to find and much more expensive today.

In the meantime, I replaced my bumper with CAbimmer's lightly banged-up stock one to get me by.

Now it's back to modding this truck in preparation for the Texas Raptor Run. Unfortunately, my wife has seen the bills for my above buying binge, and she is putting the squeeze on me - so no big ticket items like a cage for now.

It appears to me that 37's are a great way to go. Tires are suspension, so it makes sense that bigger is better for soaking up badness. Plus they look awesome and give the truck a much more aggressive stance.

Now that the techniques to make 37's work flawlessly offroad have been tested, proven, and refined by some of our trendsetting vendors, I am all in.

I met up with the guys from TMX one afternoon and we knocked down the pinch welds on all four corners (of both my truck and Sullivan21's - he was getting 37's , top perch, and glass fenders done that day).

Takes some sweat, but is very easily done with the right tools and know how. Over time, the refinements in technique by these guys now make only one cut necessary on the front

and none on the rear.

You can add a spindle gusset for cheap... which is a cheap way of reinforcing it at least?

John, do you remember what psi you were running when your tire came off the bead? I'm always experimenting how low I can go.
