We've got a 3.5 EB in my wife's Explorer Sport. That sucker moves, no lag, and incredible mid-range power. Can't wait to feel it in the Raptor with more power and more gears

I have not driven the eco in the F150 but in the Ford Fusion I had for a couple months this summer, there was a large amount of turbo lag. In fact, it was enough that I was glad I was driving it in the summer. You'd take off from the light and it would be like a dog and then all of a sudden spool up. I was thinking heck if it did this in winter, you could get in trouble quick. Plenty of power and good mileage if you babied it but the lag and sudden spool up after that was surprising and not good if that is normal. How is it in the F150 for those that have driven it?

When everyone else drives the V8 and you driving the EB...is this the lag you mean?

The looks are definitely different and IMO does not scream out Baja truck. But it's freakin' beautiful I think and still setup with the off road platform to build on. But I can guarantee that there will be body kits that will make this new truck look sicker than hell! I can foresee minor amounts of disappointments in the 2017.

I prefer the sheet metal on the Gen 1 over the new look. I prefer the interior of the Gen II full stop. A perfect solution for me would be to swap out my Gen 1 interior and dash controls with the Gen II. Or get a Gen II with the Gen 1 sheet metal and a V-8.

IMHO, the Gen 1 exterior still looks modern and distinctive.

The one big turn off for me, being in the body business, is the aluminum panels. Unfortunately all makes are heading that way. But with us running these truck recreationally, if the panel gets dented, you have to replace that panel. You cannot repair dented aluminum properly. You cannot bend it back to place like metal. Pack filler and it will crack. Crappy situation in our case. But, I'm sure many of us will splurge on glass fenders and bedsides so those at least we don't have to worry about as much after applied.

You can cut it out and weld in a new pice. But you have to have the technology.

Yes and no. To cut out a portion, you're heating up the surrounding area of aluminum, which will stretch and warp. Then you have to weld a new patch panel in, which will also create warping due to heat. @RaptorAddict.com could probably give you more insight, since all of our old restorations are steel (except some aluminum door skins and decklids - which we replace with new panels).

I'll admit I like the 15-up body style and we have an eco in our expedition, which I am very fond of, but I don't see myself taking a huge financial hit on my Gen 1 only to spend as much or more on the Gen 2 to bring it up to where my Gen 1 currently sits. I'll admit the events of the past year or so weigh heavily on that decision process.

I LOVE the look of the new gen body with the larger than Raptor fenders (like the ADD Baja XT or the Fiberwerx +4). Were I to get back into a spending mode, I would probably lean more towards a conversion vs paying the freight for status - again. At least that way I could get a 5.0.

I do have a question for the peanut gallery. Is anyone familiar with Plasma Transfer Wire Arc cylinder liners? While I can't find specific references to the Gen 2, Ford did say they were moving toward PTWA liners vs steel sleeves to save money and weight. I can only assume that with the new gen CGI block, they also adopted the PTWA liners based on claimed weight savings. We know that the Gen 2 eco can support at least 600hp (given the numbers of the GT) but I wonder what the ceiling is vs the gen 1 with steel sleeves.

This is especially concerning considering some of the "minor accidents" I've seen that have caused vehicles to be totaled. Add more cost for materials and more intensive labor costs due to increased difficulty of materials being worked with and it just seems like its asking to be totaled out.

Well, the frame is still steel so that's very repairable as far as saving from being totaled. As for totaling this truck with having to replace panels, a total is far away considering the price tag of the truck. It's just bad that paintless dent removal as an easy fix is out of the question. And god knows we get dings with our source of fun.
