It’s really hard to predict but I do believe the Raptor has the ability to become a classic like the 1955, 1956, 1957 Chevy. Think Gen1, Gen2, Gen3.

No, Ford will not make the same mistake they made with the 2014 Mustang. They have learned their lesson.

IMO it’s a hard no for the Gen 1 becoming a classic - as venerable as it is and as much respect and admiration it deserves for being the genesis for this desert runner platform. I think it primarily comes down to the front end and the concave nature of the grille and how the hood slopes down into the headlights. Also the headlights themselves make the vehicle look dated.

The Gen 2 in comparison has that box grille accentuated with the clean and straight lines of the steel bumpers that I believe will stand the test of time. I do wonder about all the electronics but we will see!

The Gen 1 may already be past that point.

Only time will tell if the Gen 2 is looked upon the same way.

With respect to the electronics, I wouldn't worry too much about it. I figure there will be plenty of companies out there fixing/upgrading all that stuff down the road. Much like how everyone has vintage air and aftermarket sound stuff in their old (driver) classics today. Companies like 4Dtech and Phoenix are essentially already doing that.

The way Ford has progressed from the Gen 1 to the Gen 2 I can't wait for the Gen 3.

I also can't wait for the Gen 3. From what I can tell it will still be a couple years out though so we will see. If they go the direction of RAM with the rounded corners and grilles I'll be disappointed. I do feel GMC currently makes the best looking new trucks but am very disappointed in their actual functionality with the tailgate and also the transmission/ride.

I am more curious in the direction they will go with the power plant since they shocked the world with this HO Ecoboost. Will they go back to a V8 ( it will have to be a SC one because this ecoboost will out perform any NA truck motor) or will they go hybrid ecoboost.

They could use the aviator grand touring hybrid motor and tune it to 500hp and 650tq but they again how much weight would that add. How much weight will a SC V8 add.....

I'm in no hurry since I love my Gen 2 and I probably won't buy the first wave of the Gen 3 anyway. I have learned not to buy first year and let them work out all the kinks lol

I see them doing something hybrid, which makes the truck disposable at some point in the future when the tech is out of production. If they can make me a Raptor that gets 25 mpg and goes 0-60 in 4 seconds then I’m interested, otherwise I’ll be figuring out how to install a long travel suspension on a Tesla Cybertruck.

Are you on the cybertruck list?

i tend to disagree here. the gen 1 is more the collector truck. it was the first real offroad production vehicle made. and even though there were a lot made, still was a limited production. for the gen 2, when it came out, ford said that anyone who wanted a raptor could get one. there are so many more gen 2 made than gen 1. for me a classic/collector vehicle has to have specific characteristics. 1) limited production 2) exclusivity. so to fit these categories i see it as this. the gen 1 raptor was exclusive because it was the first factory offroad truck. before the raptor came out, who would have thought 12" of travel in a truck? we were lucky to get half that. the gen 1 has the look that seperates it from any other truck on the market. and because there was limited allocation on the gen 1s it makes it more rare to find. i think thats why you see gen 1s holding their value so well.

as far as performance goes, you always learn from the past. while the gen 2s may outperform the gen 1s in many aspects, if the gen 1 wasnt around, we wouldnt even be having this conversation. a lot of the gen 1 owners use this truck as intended and even pushed it further. all the warranty claims, repairs, and complaints have led to the gen 2 being made the way it is now. and to be honest, its still not perfect, nor will it ever will be, but advances in technology have allowed all auto manufacturers to improve not just the raptor. and im still perfecrly happy with my gen 1. i really can care less about how much my truck will sell for. i wont sell it. ever. something very bad would have to happen to sell it. im at 187k on my 14 and its still running strong. i do hate seeing the seperation between gen 1 and gen 2 here, so hopefully we can all agree to this one statement. gen 2 owners are benefiting from gen 1 owners. gen 1 paved the way for what the raptor is now. and gen 3 owners will benefit from gen 2 owners.
