Are you on the cybertruck list?

Yes, but I’m around 89,000. Mid range AWD model with self drive for $57K. It’s the first electric vehicle that makes sense to me for functionality and cost, so I wanted to show Tesla that there are people interested. I’m guessing maybe 10% of the people who put in preorders will actually buy, but it was only $100.

I just ordered my 2020 Raptor last week, so I probably won’t actually be getting the Cybertruck when it becomes available. I can only afford one or the other. Something tells me I’m going to prefer the Raptor.

I ordered a tri motor FSD in mid Dec so I don't see me getting mine until mid 2023. I have a 2020 raptor so how I look at it is this cyber truck will fill the void between my 2020 Gen 2 raptor and my bug free 2025 Gen 3 raptor.

I waited till 2020 till all the " kinks" were worked out of this gen 2 raptor and I plan to do the same with the Gen 3 raptor. But in the mean time I think the tri motor cybertruck will be A LOT of fun!!

I tend to keep my trucks for a while, I’ve has my Bronco for 23 years and my diesel truck for 12 years. I’m going to warranty the 2020 Raptor for 8/125 and will plan on keeping it for probably the first 7 years of that so I can sell it with warranty left if I sell it. I could also see keeping the paid for Raptor and getting another commuter car if I’m still driving 20K miles per year like I do now.

I am more curious in the direction they will go with the power plant since they shocked the world with this HO Ecoboost. Will they go back to a V8 ( it will have to be a SC one because this ecoboost will out perform any NA truck motor) or will they go hybrid ecoboost.

They could use the aviator grand touring hybrid motor and tune it to 500hp and 650tq but they again how much weight would that add. How much weight will a SC V8 add.....

I'm in no hurry since I love my Gen 2 and I probably won't buy the first wave of the Gen 3 anyway. I have learned not to buy first year and let them work out all the kinks lol

I agree - for instance only two years later from release of Gen 2 they added the live shocks. But the thing about the F-150 platform is you can expect that the reliability and support will be there!

Good discussion brother. I have nothing but love and respect for the Gen 1. To address one of your points - some of the most classic trucks and SUVs out there were standard production - Defenders, Land Cruisers, Broncos, FJ Cruisers, etc. I’m speaking more to the timeless appeal of specific design and aesthetics than being a collector car so to speak.

i tend to disagree here. the gen 1 is more the collector truck. it was the first real offroad production vehicle made. and even though there were a lot made, still was a limited production. for the gen 2, when it came out, ford said that anyone who wanted a raptor could get one. there are so many more gen 2 made than gen 1. for me a classic/collector vehicle has to have specific characteristics. 1) limited production 2) exclusivity. so to fit these categories i see it as this. the gen 1 raptor was exclusive because it was the first factory offroad truck. before the raptor came out, who would have thought 12" of travel in a truck? we were lucky to get half that. the gen 1 has the look that seperates it from any other truck on the market. and because there was limited allocation on the gen 1s it makes it more rare to find. i think thats why you see gen 1s holding their value so well.

as far as performance goes, you always learn from the past. while the gen 2s may outperform the gen 1s in many aspects, if the gen 1 wasnt around, we wouldnt even be having this conversation. a lot of the gen 1 owners use this truck as intended and even pushed it further. all the warranty claims, repairs, and complaints have led to the gen 2 being made the way it is now. and to be honest, its still not perfect, nor will it ever will be, but advances in technology have allowed all auto manufacturers to improve not just the raptor. and im still perfecrly happy with my gen 1. i really can care less about how much my truck will sell for. i wont sell it. ever. something very bad would have to happen to sell it. im at 187k on my 14 and its still running strong. i do hate seeing the seperation between gen 1 and gen 2 here, so hopefully we can all agree to this one statement. gen 2 owners are benefiting from gen 1 owners. gen 1 paved the way for what the raptor is now. and gen 3 owners will benefit from gen 2 owners.
