Saturday and Sunday of this past weekend, I decided to help some of my old motorcycle riding buddy’s and made a quick 2 day trip from Wickenburg, Az. To Lake Havasu through the Alamo Lake and mountain region. It’s a common ride for locals. It’s approx. 250 miles round trip with lots of high speed roads and some really heavily damaged roads. Going in to Lake Havasu had to be the worst. The UTV;s are just destroying the washes etc. hitting woops is one thing but these things seem to cause sand washes to get wash boarded and it just rattles everything apart. I had to stop one time to put my K&N filter back on and the connectors for the tubes going into the throttle body back on. Needless to say I was a bit perplexed with 10 miles of this type of road. It didn’t matter if you were going 5 or 50 mph. It just rattled your teeth in your head.
Well I got busy cleaning and looking the truck over for any unseen damages etc. My inner fender liners had gotten a little tweaked so I decide to do a little trimming and low and behold that’s when I found fresh aluminum showing on the tops of my fox 3.0s. You normally would not be able to see this unless looking very closely or taking the shocks off but after seeing the fresh aluminum, I decided to remove the shocks for further inspection and this is what I found.

I’m not sure why this could have happened. Luckily it’s not an expensive fix as it is a separate part that I should be able to get from Fox real easily but it still bothers me as to why it would have broken like that. The bolts were all tight so there was no play in the mounting portion. Anyone have any thing like this happen to them?

I am assuming that the mounts on the frame are OK. Probably better to have the mount on the shock fail before the mount on the frame does. I am probably stating the obvious, but it explains why all speeds were rough.

I've done this. The old 3.0's was aluminum top hats. Not sure y they did that but i feel it was stupid with how much goes on in front. Gotta get chromoly ones or stop driving it like a trophy truck :)

Just found out that the first gen fox 3.0's were alum and they changed to CM. A set is being sent my way, no charge. I agree that with all that goes on up front that CM should have been the obvious from the get go. Live and learn with any modified off road set up.

Good to hear that this was a bug in the initial design and that they are doing right for you!

I have to give credit where credit is deserved.
Corey at RPG is the company that is sending me those new mounts. RPG has always stood upright when it comes to honoring warranties or work or products they sell. I have had a lot of things take place with my front end and RPG has always been there to make it right.
Thanks Corey.

Thats nice to hear good things about RPG my new truck is going straight to TMX from the dealer to get an RPG Stage 4 for the rear, and on the front RPG UCAs, RGP Tie Rods, and FOX 3.0 shocks came in at a little over 10K with labor, with a RPG PSR.
