Observations - that plastic pan and screw look like trouble waiting to happen. Was surprised the pan is plastic (nylon).

We actually replace a lot of the plastic drain plugs at my dealership, they tend to leak after removal. Not sure why they went this way, diesels have them too.

Thanks for the post and info! Nicely done!

Would a fumoto valve work? I've been wanting to try one and this might the truck to do it on. Thoughts?

Fumoto® USA | Quick and Easy Engine Oil Drain Valves

They actually have a number of different valve options - here's one:

<EDIT: Posted the below Fumoto valve info before I read the rest of the posts which include several on this NOT workin. Not sure why Fumoto is saying they have multiple valve options but it's too bad it won't work. Off to Amazon to buy a Mightyvac. >]

The plastic plug has a "coarse" thread...like 1 turn and it is all the way in...search plastic Ford drain plug to see pic. Ours doesn't have a socket recess just finger tab and release tabs. Assume people were breaking release tabs getting on the 3/8" square with a ratchet without releasing the tabs first...

Long time lurker - finally signed up for an account!

Anyhow, I had an interesting discovery today that I am sure you guys can weigh in on. First oil change (1500 mile break-in) and my plan was to use my Mityvac to just grab the 6 quarts out, slap a new filter on, refill and done... oh no.

No matter how much I poked and tried to get deeper in the pan I could only get 2 quarts out through the dipstick. It felt almost like there was some sort of stop at the bottom of the dipstick travel. I went down a size to the smallest tube I had and still no-go. Tried rotating it while pushing - nothing. I did not try any flexible tubing as I would imaging that would be tough to cram down the dipstick all the way to the pan.

I ended up getting the remaining gallon out the old fashioned way. Granted, vacuuming the other 2 quarts off did seem to calm to torrential flood out of the pan drain at least.

It's all done now, but I'd much prefer to just use the Mityvac. Has anyone else had trouble on these GEN2's reaching the bottom of the pan through the dipstick?

I had the exact same problem at 1500, even tried to put it on multiple inclines / declines thinking that was the problem. Ended up adding the 2 quarts back with Mobile 1, and brought to the dealer at about 4k. By searching the dealers in the area, I was able to find a bunch of oil service coupons. They confirmed over the phone that the coupon also applied to the Raptors ( thought they would charge extra for the addl quart). The deal was $39 for synthetic blend, and $59 for full synthetic ( both with the oem filter). I had the blend done, and just plan to have the service done at 5K intervals. At that price, it just isn't worth it to me to do it myself. Also dealer does their multipoint inspection and any warranty items at the same time.

I was thinking about this mity vac idea but sometimes thinking gets me in trouble. Anyway, I did my own 1st oil change and it went pretty well after reading this thread. I then went inside and drank a beer out of a glass. I drank almost all of the beer except the last little bit. I looked at the last little bit through the glass and there was a bunch of little floaters and back wash and a piece of hamburger from dinner the night before and even a piece of hair (not sure where that came from). I then drank that last little bit. My question is...is using this thing (mityvac) without draining the oil out of the plug similar to or worse than drinking that last bit of beer?

I personally like to drain the oil and run 1 qt of new oil through the pan to get the residual oil 'flushed' out but that's just me. I assume a vacuum method leaves some like draining the oil... you'd probably be fine either way.

Now that's a good idea. Why didn't I think of that? I wish that 6th and 7th quart of oil was as cheap as the 1st 5 quarts though.
