I know its a waste but i like to go overkill and keep things running right. I do 1,000 miles and do full synthetic then change it every 5,000

That is exactly what I am doing. I know overkill and a waste of money, but I sleep better at night knowing:)

One thing to remember - the owners manual service recommendations are specifically "stretched" to end up at an overall lower cost of yearly maintenance. All technicaly by the book crap that makes each vehicle have a lower "yearly maintenance cost."

Thats like 100,000 miles on spark plugs and coolant flush. Or no need to change the transmission or diff fluid. No way.

Buy hey, that's why we all have an opinion!

Thanks for all the replies and opinions!! I think I will be safe and get a change at 1500 and then repeat every 5k!!!! Safe then sorry is a good way to live. Now for the brand I'm going with Mobil 1 5W/20 and Mobil 1 oil filters heard only good things.

Hey Raptor Headz....

Question my new Screw just hit 1000 miles and i called my local Ford Service Tech to ask for a oil change appt. After he responded he said that it was not necessary and a waste of money.... I have read some post on many Raptor and new vehicle owners flushing out debris and metals from the initial break in stage. He said that most forum owners were extra careful to the point of "extreme" with some methods of maintenance. I just want to keep a good running truck. He asked also if i tow a lot or drive hard (which i have yet to do) so he said that the 7500 mile change would be fine....and to save my money. Is this good advice?
I asked then about the initial break in phase of most engines at 1000-2000 miles and that is why I have been taking it easy on towing and off road'n. He chucked and said that son is the old way of thinking....these engines are made to take a beating out of the box. Technology has come a long way so I'll see ya when you hit 7500miles. I reluctantly thanked him and said ok.

Any thoughts? Should I wait until my light tell me to get a change or listen to the Ford Service Tech?

Thanks ya'll

BK

My service manager told me the same thing. I plan to do my first at 5000 miles and every 5k after that. (rotation and balance as well)

Mine told me not needed but it's my truck, my money do what you want. It won't hurt anything and it if it makes you feel better, do it.

i just went for my first oil change last week. they wanted to make sure i had over 5,000 miles before they did it. something about the way the motor breaks in, is what they told me. either way, my first change was at 7,500 miles.
