I don't know what to tell you, other than that I had several class wins and was usually in the top 5 in G Stock class. I'm guessing you are pretty knowledgeable, about both Solo 1 and Volvo R series.

I don't doubt you, would love to see a wagon running laps. Reminds me of the time my buddy took his Lancer out with the snow tires still on just for kicks and beat the competition.

Maple Grove Raceway used to set up some big, open, fast tracks that I could do well at. My ex was in the stands there and a bunch of young guys were laughing because an old guy in a Volvo was going to run next. A minute later that would change to, "Holy shit, that thing flies!" Much fun was had. A lot of great people involved, like with off-roading. The tough part is my class also has Mini Cooper S's in it. If the track was somewhat open and fast, with some flow, I could do well. If it was tight and full of cranked up turns the Mini's would kill me.

I used to drag race my ZX11 at MIR in MD, mostly their ‘midnight madness’ and especially the time trials. Time after time people would line up their tubbed, supercharged big block chevy/ford/mopar next to my rice burning Kaw and be sucking 1206cc’s worth of 93 unleaded by the 60’ mark and never recover. Guys on street tires wouldn’t even line up with me sometimes. There was one guy who trailered his tubbed Impala there and I remember looking over about 1/8 mile or so and thinking ‘holy $hit! I can still see this guy. I only beat him by .5 seconds.

And then I rode home about 20 minutes later because I scored my wins.

Nice, that's really a lot of fun. We had 2 local 1/8 mile tracks that both closed down in the late '70's. I raced my bikes there quite a bit. Autocross got real weak in the last 10 years also. The best tracks we had were at at Maple Grove and Nazareth International Speedway. They were big and a lot of fun because you had room to run, like at a national. Nazareth closed and Maple Grove stopped anything besides drag racing. It died off in the region after that.
