This is a cool cheap idea, but correct me if im wrong. If thats a METAL pipe hes using, wouldnt the heat off the engine heat up the pipe after a while and make the air going in hot too and thus defeat the purpose of a "CIA"?

The metal intake pipe would have little or no effect on incomming air charge because of the air velocity through the tube. If the incomming air charge was to dwell inside of the tube then it would increase in temp. Since the air inside the tube is constantly moving while the engine is running, the heat would not be transfered..

The only exception is if the tube diameter is too large, then the intake air velocity would slow down and slight (a couple degrees) heat transfer would..

I'm glad this was resurected. I've been thinking about doing a similar mod. Except rather than K&N, I'd like to put the Donaldson filter that Volant uses in the box. His comment about 3" hose is a great idea. 1) Cheap 2) Flexible 3) Easy.

What's the stock diameter of the intake? Isn't it about 3"? I'm not thinking larger... just more direct with less resistance. Call me crazy, but the open box style of some of the CAI's and the hi-flow filters seem to allow a certain amount of risk of engine damage. I like the Donaldson filter because it maintains a large amount of surface area for both filtration and air flow.

the more I look at this thread now the better idea Think it is, so I checked racepartsolutions.com. The website on those silicone couplers the OP used and it looks like you can get all the parts needed on that site!! the piping aluminum or SS, couplers and clamps. Price varies depending on the metal you choose for pipe. Thinkin its a 45degree mandrel bend and he just cut it on the throttle body intake end? My guess is its all 3" or 3 1/2" since its looks same diameter as the stock intake box. just have to measure that

Wow! Yeah - it helps! That's a realy cheap solution. When you put it all together, it's about $50 in pipes, joints and clamps.
