Getting ready to install some rigid radiance ditch lights and trying to find a good place to tap DRLs so the ambers come on when the DRLs are on. I need to keep all upfitter switches open otherwise I’d use two for these lights. Any suggestions? Is this harness the lighting harness??

The DRLs are powered by a module (BCM) via a transistor; it measures current draw. Adding a load to the headlamp/DRL circuit can cause DTCs to set and disable the circuit, which means no headlights.

I was able to find a vendor who suggested tapping into the side marker in the passenger fender. 4 screws hold the liner in place. Unscrew those, pry the plastic mounts the wires are attached to from the frame, disconnect the wiring plug from the sidemarker, tap into the blue/gray wire of the side marker harness and off you go. Works perfectly with no errors or issues. I would use a watertight connection in that area.

What he said.
I set a BCM DTC putting reverse lights in. The fuses don’t blow first, the module sets a fault.

There’s a very robust discussion of similar strategy; tapping high beams to trigger a relay >> off road lights. Those threads are worth a read before adding any significant load in the vehicle harness.

I would still be sure to check for DTCs after installation. The BCM will set DTCs for an out of range value before disabling the output, and there will be no visual indicator or warning messages. If the DTC continues to set after a predetermined number of cycles, the module will need to be replaced.

I’m just using the tap for the back lighting of the radiance lights which pulls literally next to nothing. The actual lights will be on aux 2 switch.

Hes just giving you valid information. Do what you will with “literally next to nothing” but if it knocks out all of your parking lights, you’ll know the issue.
