what about when your truck no longer physically fits into one space?

am I then a complete ******* for even owning a vehicle that doesn't fit in a parking space?

people don't think anymore. I've had someone park DIRECTLY BEHIND MY TRAILER that has the loading ramps deployed, in a parking lot with very few other people. am I the jerk because I decided to run in someplace to pee before finishing unloading my trailer?

I think I'm going to try my best to take up 3 spots the next time that I have my raptor out, just because it will trigger half the snowflakes in the world.

It's not like there is a sign stating "parking is free. limit one space per customer."

I would key your truck out of spite if you took 3 spots and park my Raptor in a single stall right beside it.... :)

and I'd find you based on the dashcam footage and put you into cuffs for vandalism.

so please, be my guest.

Even auxiliary officers LOVE when people feel entitled to wreck shit that we've worked hard for. ;)

I missed the day when it was announced that it was cool to be an overly-sensitive wuss that is triggered by what other folks choose to do.

News flash: the only things that you're entitled to are being alive for a while and paying taxes.

Everything else is something that needs to be earned.

(no this is not directed AT you. it is a general frustration of mine based on the way the world is spinning nowadays. #getoffmylawn )

Out of curiosity, if a vehicle was damaged in a situation like this, and a note was left claiming, or hinting at, responsibility, would finger prints on the note be possible evidence? I want to say that the cops wouldn't bother, but I don't know. Perhaps it also depends on the location and how busy the cops are. I've seen cops go way beyond expectations because a case was more interesting than what they have to deal with on a daily basis.

that depends on how the person that damaged the vehicle reacts/responds and whether or not they left contact information.

I'm an auxiliary officer, so other than my 30 hrs per month, I'd not out on patrol, etc and don't deal with the same things that patrol officers deal with. (TBH, while I have completed POST training and do carry a weapon, for the most part, I help with the department's Technology plan & services as I work on technology for a living. ) The only time that I'm in a legit uniform and on the street is when there is a parish-wide event ( like a hurricane, or mardi gras, etc) or there is a staffing shortage for some reason.

For me, it kind of depends on intent. If I responded to a call and it was obvious that the "note leaver" keyed the car or was purposefully vandalizing the vehicle, I'd be having a conversation with the note leaver prior to making a decision. Would that entail taking fingerprints to track them down? no. TBH, that is what car insurance is for.

I'm sure most residents would prefer that we're working calls for shootings, burglars, or robbers.

Hell, some residents prefer that we're in the canals shooting nutria 24/7. ( nasty little bastards.)

Taking up two spots, regardless of where you park, is not a good move in my book. I always park as far out as possible and take up a single parking space.

On a similar note, I confronted a lady several weeks ago at Home Depot who parked in a handicap spot. She rushed out of the store very briskly pushing a cart and hoisted two bags of rock salt (around 40 lbs each) into her car while talking on her cell. I asked her if she was handicapped. She stated with all kinds of attitude that she has spinal issues. I told her that I was not there to argue whether or not she has, or ever had, spinal issues, but I was curious as to what issues she was having that day which justified her using a spot that somebody else may genuinely need. Her face went blank and she had no response. I smiled and stated very nicely that she shouldn't be parking there unless she genuinely needed the spot on that particular day.

How about people mind their own business? not all handicaps are immediately recognizable and as much as it may irk you (or me) best not to be the parking lot ranger hero and go on your merry way.
