I would be in tears from anger and frustration in your position. This might the the best they can do but it’s not the best that can be done. Clearly, the initial job and especially the correction of their initial job is wel beyond the scope of their capabilities. They need to pay for a professional to fix their **** up or trade you up to a ‘19.

I think this is probably beyond small claims if it comes to that. We are talking about a 70 grand truck after all. I would be lawyering up if you haven’t already.

I will be speaking to a lawyer for sure! At this point I want them to take the truck back for what I paid, 200 over invoice and order a 19 to my spec for invoice and take off half the holdback amount. Is this request unreasonable? This whole deal has been an enormous amount of stress and an exercise on temper management, it’s even affecting my sleep.

If they haven't helped you so far then that is never going to happen. They would have to do it of their own volition. The most you will get is the underside restored and some damages. A court would never instruct them to trade and reorder at a certain price.

That’s my concern. Wasn’t sure if the regional rep could pressure them

I doubt it. This is nothing to do with Ford Corporate.

The fastest route for you is:
1. Get a quote to fix it how you want.
2. Demand letter for the quote amount + a bit
3. Small claims court

Then get on with enjoying the truck and put this behind you.

WOW!!! I'd be beyond livid if my truck came back like this. I'm glad you're pursuing the issue with this second-rate dealer and not easily getting intimidated. Unfortunately, It'll be a very long and frustrating process. Sadly, there are folks that would chalk this up to "over reacting" and simply let it go. Well... It's that type of thinking that allows and encourages this sort of work at dealerships and accross the automotive industry to continue as there is no accountability. If everyone would expect more and begin holding them highly accountable the service would change for the better. If not the dealership and the responsible personel would be out of work due to ignorance and their arrogance. Way too many competent business that understand how to do a job correctly to accept this nonsense.

Don't expect Ford Corporate to do much. Your best course of action in addition to going to small claims court is to go to social media and share your expereience. Put the dealership and the GM on blast. Good luck!

Wow! I would blow a gasket.

Shows that they are a bunch of amateurs at that dealer. I’m actually surprised because most dealers up here (Ontario, Canada) send that type of work out. The LineX installer I used had a conga line of F150s coming from the local dealer.

Be persistent for sure. I would want a new truck but they may just replace the effed up parts. Whoever did that needs to be fired for sure.

Good luck. Have a bourbon, you’ll feel better lol

That’s absolute horseshit. Why settle for small claims $5k limit? ratchet things up and lawyer up with a real case. At the very least you have a claim for repairing the truck which is next to impossible and a diminished value claim if a single drop of paint has to be sprayed to restore the truck to its new condition. You will have a hard time placing a value on emotional stress or time lost. It will also be tough to say just how much was damaged since you knew they were spraying undercoat onto the car and they literally gave you undercoat but diminished value is real and if it goes to a body shop it will hit the carfax report for the car. To maximize any claims documentation is key. Every call, every communication, every minute you spent during working hours, and I’d probably find a lemon law attorney anyways even if it’s not a lemon law case. They will have the expertise to deal with automobile related claims.

Honestly, It is worth also filing a grievance with ford corporate. You want to show that you've exhausted all options for remediation.

I can't believe that any tech, service advisor, service manager, dealership, or automotively inclined human being would think the work was even remotely passable.

Get a lawyer. Keep your cool. have a body shop take pictures to document and provide a quote for remediation ASAP. Actually, get 2 quotes.

Have your legal counsel approach the dealership with a choice: Pay for remediation, offer a deal structured as you've indicated, or have a judge hear the case.

Ford corp has leaned into dealers for similar flubs and pressed the issue until the dealer did the right thing.

I wouldn't bank on Ford's help, but you have to try in order to show that all non-legal avenues have been explored.

DO NOT say anything to Ford about a lawsuit. As soon as those words are uttered, Ford employees won't be able to assist.

You may also want to go directly to Ford performance to air the grievance. While FP is part of Ford, they operate almost independently.

Net/net, the remediation IMO surpasses 10K, in which case it is above the threshold for small claims. Small claims would also mean that lawyers generally don't get involved, if those quotes from the body shop, summed with legal fees, inconvenience, lost wages, etc, should certainly get you up over the 10K.

Document EVERYTHING. Keep a journal with dates, times and summaries of any conversations or actions pertaining to remediation.
