Dead battery already?

you should never really have to check the water level in a battery. but i have heard of people having no water in a battery.

Josh, this just happened to my wife. Battery was less than a year old and it turns out that the dealership had put a crap non-ford battery in when my wife took it in for service last time at the dealer we no longer go to.

It was too small of a battery for the truck and therefore died early. Since the clowns put in a non-OE battery I had to pay to have it replaced. Probably not your issue, but maybe something to check.

LED lights draw less current, not HID lights
My 55 Watt HID headlights from Sick Hid's, when I was installing them I drained my battery 3 different times by leaving them on for a few minutes at a time with the engine turned off

I am not sure how much current the 2013 stock Hid's take you could check and see what size fuse they are using for that circuit but my money is on the fact that they draw more current than the stock headlights would.

So I've had my 2013 for less than three weeks and when I went down to start it up this morning, nothing... Remote wouldn't unlock the doors, wouldn't autostart, nothing... So I pop the hood and look at the little indicator on the battery and its RED! Correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't that mean its time to replace? 3 WEEKS? The part that really chaps my ass is I just installed the AFE CAI and livewire and tune from 5 star, so if I want to take to the dealer I have to put that stuff back to stock so they can't say their at fault...

I think my headlights were on MAYBE 5 minutes last night with the engine off. That shouldn't be enough to kill the battery would it?



My original battery died with in a year and a half. Instead of getting a new one I just put in my Red Top Optima from my old truck and a year and a half later this one is now dying.
It's around 5 or 6 years old so who knows. I'm about to purchase a Yellow Top Optima this week and may even put 2 of them hooked up together.
I've been running HID's for fog lights for almost three years and HID's for head lights for the past year and a half so all of that running together is killing my batteries I'm sure plus I have a security camera that runs none stop in my truck.
Hopefully I'll have better luck with the Yellow Top Optima's cause there made for constant discharge and recharge from what I've read up on them but I'm always open to suggestions from you guys to avoid this.

Well I had the same thing happen to me. It must be the live wire. I called sct about it and they said it goes into a low power mode for 2 days then shuts off completely. They said to unplug it if u aren't goin to use the truck for a couple days. Mine sat almost 2 days and it was completely dead. Gonna see if the battery is OK maybe try to recondition it. If that don't work I will just upgrade it.

a dual battery setup with an isolator is the way to go if you have a constant current draw when the vehicle is off. i just did an f150 recently with ths setup. he was a camper, so he wanted to have a fridge running without draining hs main battery. second battery was placed under the rear seat. i had to build a small tray to keep the battery secure.

if you go the optima route, the red tops are for starting. the yellows are for capacity, and the blue are for marine. maybe a red for under the hood and a yellow for the aux battery. if you are only going to have 1 battery then use a yellow. they dont get damaged by being completely discharged.

What do u think of optima's current quality? I used the for a while. They were great. The last one I bought was a better door stop than battery after 1 year. I heard a few people not happy with them in the past year or so.

Sorry Nick,

I would be interested in how much power the live wire pulls?

So no setting where it goes to a sleep mode after a certain amount of time?

i myself have not had any issues with them. we are a dealer for interstate so we have installed quite a few batteries in many different vehicles. but i too have heard of people not happy with them. i wonder if it was a bad batch that was produced.
