I was thinking about posting something similar but thought I might get dog piled.

I love the Ecoboost. Have had mine about 6 months and just enjoy the engine more than a I think I would a normally aspirated V8. I won’t go through the list of cars owned but they have included plenty of V8 trucks and a few high performance V8 Euro vehicles. For me the dual personality of the motor has a lot of appeal. Normal driving it’s super tame and muted but when you decide to go it absolutely rips! I even enjoy the sound (interior) especially the turbo spool. I am a little more techy than brawny so maybe that’s it.

One critical piece for me - I did put the MPT tune on mine at 45 days in. I struggled with the decision and I worry about the warranty some. I am hoping I don’t have any problems and if I do I will switch back to the stock map and hope they don’t look too hard. The tune solved the problem I had which was lugging/surging. I changed spark plugs to 542s (or whatever the number is) and didn’t notice any change. Even had the tires rebalanced because I thought that might be it. After tuning I forgot about it completely until just going back to stock for a while before planning to get the recall done. The surging came back. I am sure it’s due to the aggressive shift program built in from Ford for MPGs. I looked the other day and I was in 8th gear going 26 mph. I reloaded the tune and it’s completely gone. Plus I HATE the auto stop / start feature. The way my Valentine is wired it restarts every time the start/stop recycles. Tune eliminated that too.

Overall I am super pleased with the engine. There are a few dumb engineering items (plastic oil drain plug, etc) but that doesn’t negate what I love about it enough to matter.

Also, my .02, I personally like the aesthetics of the Gen 1 over the Gen 2. Coming down the road or in a parking lot you can easily discern that the Gen 1 is not like any other truck on the street. The Gen 2 seems to blend in more...

I agree.

I really like how the Gen 1, took a stock F-150, changed the grille, added a hood vent, added wider front fenders with vents, and added wider rear bedsides, along with the iconic amber marker lights. The way the Gen 2 took a stock F-150, changed the grille, added a hood vent, added wider front fenders with vents, and added wider rear bedsides, along with the iconic amber marker lights is just simply dogshit on a silver spoon. I mean, then Gen 2 just stands out so much more.

In the eye of the beholder. IMO the Gen 1 took way too many styling cues from one of the most boring cars ever and it always reminds me of my neighbor's company car. Aside from the flared fenders and position lights, the G1 has a very generic look.

It's funny when I got my gen two and had it next to my gen 1 I said to myself "wow the gen 1 looks so old". Just a matter of personal preference but I think the lines on the 18 are far more muscular.

I agree...BUT I still love the looks of the Gen1, and really like the front end with the right bumper tucked up high and tidy with no IC to worry about...
I simply fell in love with the Raptor when it first hit the scene...not only was it pure bad-ass, but it was bad-ass that a truck manufacture had the balls to build/sell something like that.....and still does!

Was playing with controls today. Noticed all at about 42psi, and also noticed back end bounces around on straight roads with potholes. Thanks for suggestions, as I will be letting some air out. Right now actually!

When running unloaded and over the road I run 38 fronts and 35 rears, and have since the first week of ownership (mine were delivered with ~50 lbs in each). And those settings might still be a little over inflated, despite matching / being less than what is marked on the door jamb. After 17,000+ miles at those pressures, with regular tire rotations, I am noticing the centers are visibly more warn than the outer edges. The tires are not worn out or anything like that, but they now have enough wear on them to tell a distinct pattern of center wear. Center wear is a classic symptom of over inflation.

I may try to drop another 3 lbs per, to 35 front / 32 rear, and see how the wear is then.

By the way, use a good gauge, don't go by the dash readings. The dash indications are close, but mine are typically a couple pounds off, either way, of what I read on a good gauge. I think the TPMS / dash indication combination is a "close enough" thing for safety purposes, it will tell you when a tire is grossly out of range.

T!
