Day 3 of Ownership- does anyone really miss the V8?

Yup. Don't like Gen 2's at all. Even 3 years later- still a big nope in my book. I mean, it's not total crap- way better than a Tundra in every way ya know, but still a half baked copy of a Gen 1 styling wise.

I missed the V8 when I sold my 13 Raptor and got a 18, so I just went out and purchased a 14 to go along with my 18. Problem solved ;)

I still say the 10 speed trans is garbage though, would much rather have the 6 speed in my 18.

Meh, more power and possibly better mpg. I drive 25-30k miles a year, I will take 16 mpg mix. Now if it was a weekend only truck, maybe a 5.0 with a blower would be nice.

all depends on the specs.... I am not in my 20's, so I could give 2 craps about how the exhaust sounds. And that is the only thing the previous V8 has on the current EB.

I will gladly take more power, less weight, better economy over pissing off my wife and neighbors every day of the week.

I live at altitude and the 3.5L EB would stomp a N/A 7.0 because it isn't as sensitive to elevation changes. Nothing beats a turbo for racing up mountain passes.

(Well not nothing, an electric car destroyed the Pike's Peak hill climb record this year.)

I would definitely like an electric version. The motor would most likely have less failure modes and drivability would seemingly be better.

I don't miss the V8 at all, then again my last F150 had the 5.4 and I hated that motor.

I never drove the Ford big-block-V8 (6.2L), at least not since it was called a "Cobra Jet", but I got a 400+ cubic incher with pushrods and a carb for when I want to get old-fashioned and loud.

Anybody know what the 5.0 trucks are getting for gas mileage in the real world?

My work truck is a 2018 5.0 regular cab FX4 4x4. On average it gets about 1 to 2 MPG worse, over the same roads, than my 2018 Raptor. We are talking about 14 (5.0 truck) and 16 (Raptor) MPG in this case under these conditions. But my Raptor is a SCREW and my work truck is a regular cab, my Raptor has 35" tires and my work truck as 31". I suspect if they were both super crews and both running the same tire size the delta might be a bit larger.

Power wise, the two trucks feel very similar, however, again they are different cabs, weights, and different tire sizes.

Our other work truck is a 2017 F250 Super Duty supercrew cab truck, and it feels very low in power compared to my Raptor. And it also gets more like 11 MPG under the same conditions.

Given what I know from driving my truck and the work trucks, if there was a 5.0 option today for the Raptor I would probably still opt for the current 3.5 EB, unless I was planning on throwing tunes and go fast parts at it, then I would opt for the 5.0, I think it would have more easily unlocked potential.

With that said though, wouldn't it be cool if Ford came out with a small displacement, say 4'ish liter, EB V8? I love my Raptor, period. I am extremely happy with my truck. But, I could really get behind an EB V8. And I am not a forced induction guy in general, most of my vehicles have been NA, and I have always thought that was the way to go...until I bought my Raptor.
