Crash protection removed from Raptor?

WOW. This could be a big deal.



That speed test was only at 40mph. In a truck, I would expect to be alive if I hit a pole or something at 40mph. But after watching that video of the Scab, I dont think you would be. And if thats what all G2's are like then thats just unacceptable by Ford. I hope I'm wrong on this though.



How exactly could this even possibly be a big deal?

The Raptor actually has a real bumper, and the screw is always going to do better because of the b pillars.

It takes a lot of force to push those bars out of the way, so there's less force remaining to act on the cab.

My guess is the Raptor's bumper is strong enough that the engineers believe it will accomplish the same thing.

Why would just this bar make such a big difference between a cab remaining in tack vs crumbling like a soda can?
The bar's purpose is to help keep the tire/wheel assembly from being pushed into the floorboard, thereby reducing the amount of damage to an occupant's lower legs. The crash tests that were done both with and without the bar show a lot of difference in the amount of damage to the occupant's leg area. I would definitely prefer not to have my legs crushed in a front overlap crash, which is a common crash these days (due to drivers veering over the yellow line while looking down at their cellphone).

Someone in another forum said that Ford never added the bars to the regular cab at all. Seems pretty obvious that they're only adding that structure to the trucks they know are going to be crash tested - SuperCrew first, then the SuperCabs only after they got caught. But since the Raptor is a performance model, they know it won't be tested, so they take off the bars.

They're trying to game the crash tests.

I mean, I can see how having the bars or not might not bother some people, but jeez this could be some pretty serious assholery going on here on Ford's part.
