Correct Oil Dipstick Reading Process for Gen 2

Started my oil consumption test @ 10,299 miles at the Dealer.

It failed.

Just had my valve covers replaced under TSB 19-2232 @ 13,516 miles.

I now have 14,297 or 781 miles since the valve cover replacement. I'm going to check my oil level tomorrow.

I do have a catch can and drained roughly 5 ounces of blow-by out of it in about 3,772 miles.

So is it one quart from bottom of top hole to bottom of lower hole?

The reason I'm asking is because the Dealer supposedly followed the TSB which is to fill up with 5 quarts then mark dipstick and then fill with last quart of oil. My mark on the dipstick is approximately 1/2 - 3/4" down from just below the bottom of the top hole.

I know when mine has a fresh oil change it does sit just below the bottom of the top hole which is exactly where it was when the Dealer filled it after the valve cover replacement.

Any links to folks getting a buy back when this issue isn't resolved?

I'll post a picture tomorrow of
1.) My marked dipstick
2.) Where my oil sits now, which should be good as I didn't notice any oil consumption until about 2,000 miles.
3.) Picture of my captured blow-by.

I'm really hoping that around another 1,219 or so miles or about 2,000 miles after the valve cover replacement the I no longer see my oil being consumed. Time will tell.

If you look at my post above the second picture is where I'm at after 1500 miles from the oil change and valve covers. Went from 8500(when dealer said they fixed it) to 10,000.

Tbh, I'm hoping I dont burn more than 1Qt of oil in 5k miles but let see. Post the pics and I can let u know where you stand based on the Consumption.

I would get that checked out. That is not normal at all under amy situation. Did you get your valve covers replaced?, 1qt per 1k is defintely an issue and can cause ur engine to take damage if there is not enough oil in it.

I haven't, this just started recently. But I've gotta get some other issues, tpms signal failing after 30 minutes of driving, figured out so I'll bring it up then. This will be the 4th time it's been in for the tpms issue.

So your not suppose to let it sit overnight. Ita 15min after turning off the truck in operating temperature. If you let it sit all night it will be a inaccurate reading. Trust me, after 15min mine is at the halfway mark, after letting it sit for 2 hours plus or overnight it will show about full. There has to be some oil in the vehicle period.

Yeah, I know that's what Ford recommends but I'm not sure if that really represents the proper oil level. Like you stated 2 hours later you'll get a very different reading.

I never had issues with getting an oil check on the dipstick on my other Ford trucks regardless if it was 15 minutes after parking or two hours later it read pretty much the same.

Maybe it's because it a high Performance engine.

Regardless, I'll keep an eye on it as Ford recommends after a 15 minute drain back just to see how much it changes.

"Check your oil before starting engine for the day. If it’s not down to the add line or lower hole, drive it like you stole it. When it gets to add line before it’s time for an oil change add a quart and drive it like you stole it. It’s that easy brother. Stop fretting and trying to be so tech-no. Check it cold and Keep the oil level between the lines and enjoy the ride."

Agreed. Just keep checking it.

Obviously enjoy the truck, but I'm OCD about things and knowing a brand new truck I bought is broke defintely ruins my mood. Also if you drove it like you stole it, it wont be fun when that oil pressure light comes on( when burning oil). Already had it once and it was the worst feeling.

So what is max like 7 quarts plus? Ideally being at that line right below the max (where the X stop at) is where full is at and where every raptor owner should be at 6 quarts.

Mine sits right below the top hole when oil is changed, 6 quarts.

I now have 1,642 miles on it since the TSB 19-2232 was completed and just checked oil level this morning and it was down approximately 3 "x" from top so I'm still seeing oil consumption but if it's only a quart in 5,000 miles I could possibly live with that since I'll be doing oil changes at 5,000 miles.

I don't like it but some say that a little oil consumption on a high Performance engine is acceptable others say there shouldn't be any.

I will monitor it closely to see what how it pans out.
