I have noticed a slight roughness at idle from time to time is this one of the possible side effects ?

This could be one of a million things. We have many trucks in with rattle and no rough start. Boost leaks, bad injectors, etc.....attribute time rough idle at cold start usually

Aren't there 2 revisions of the part though? C And CD? Could be the first revision still had some issues?

Anything built after the cutoff date in the SSM should have received the CD part number, which was the updated design. However; that doesn't guarantee that one didn't slip through the cracks, as the engines are built at a different plant than the trucks.

2017 w/ 47,000 miles. I purchased this truck last week and I dropped it off today for phasers. Showed them a vid of the truck On a cold start and no questions asked they took my keys and will have it done this week(if parts aren’t back ordered ).

I did my research here before buying the truck so when I heard it start cold the first time I thought it probably needed phasers but I just couldn’t pass up the truck. Hopefully no more problems after this, but hey, that’s what warranties are for!

according to the person I talked to there was a TSB issued today for the cam phasers. I will talk to them tomorrow and post that number here for others having trouble getting this resolved.

Are you asking whether or not you should have phaser surgery because you are not sure what parts you have? If old parts you want the new parts?

It is not required in the TSB so Ford will not replace them unless you request it and theoretically you should not have to. I just figured it was cheap insurance so I had it done.

FordTechOne can probably tell us what the average life expectancy is for the timing chains, tensioners and guides.

With proper maintenance intervals and the use of high quality oil/filters the timing drive system should never require replacement for the life of the vehicle. This is due to the fact that with proper lubrication, the friction in the system is minimal.

As far as the SSM to replace the phasers, it specifically states that other camshaft timing related components should not be replaced unless inspection identifies a concern. Which means that if a tensioner sticks upon retraction or a guide is cracked (for example) the technician has approval from Ford to replace the affected component. I would not be concerned about tensioners, chains, or guides with low mileage on these vehicles. A faulty phaser locking pin will do nothing aside from make noise; it doesn't affect cam drive operation or durability.
