Nothing external to the engine aside from the Charge Air Cooler (CAC) outlet pipe. Neither the radiator nor the CAC are removed. Dealer shouldn’t care since the bumper and aftermarket CAC should not interfere with the repair procedure.

Just picked mine back up from the dealership where they confirmed it’s a phaser issue. Parts are on order so I’ll take it back when they get in.

Interesting side note. I know it’s been said that it can’t be intermittent but I have noticed at least twice in the past month that after sitting all night it did not make the noise.

I left it overnight at the dealer and they said when they started it they heard nothing. They said they’d keep it another night to check again. Sure enough, when they pulled it inside for the night and the next morning it was making the noise and they confirmed the issue. The advisor was also surprised by this.

The noise can be intermittent. If the locking pin on the affected phaser property engages on engine shutdown, it will not make the noise on the next start. However, once the locking pin mechanism is compromised, the concern tends to occur more frequently.

Well I dropped my 2018 off for cam phasers on 4.14.20 and got it back yesterday 5.6.20. I asked the dealer to replace the timing chains and the chain tensioners at the same time. I have 38k on the truck and I figured I’d rather be safe than sorry. It took the dealer over a week just to get the timing chains and tensioners. I didn’t push them on getting it completed as soon as possible I just emphasized that I wanted them to do the job right. I can happily say that it looks like they did a nice job and the truck sounds and runs great! I sure missed driving my truck and am happy to have it back! Let the mods resume!

My 18 is going in on the 20th for a cold start phaser check not looking forward to dealing with it maybe I'll get lucky and it won't be too too bad !

I’m going to apologize in advance, but I’m not going to go through all 131 pages (I know, I know, I’m lazy).

I see a lot on the Cam Phasers, but I thought I saw where they changed parts in 2019? I’m just wondering how common of an issue this is, and what I should look for on my 2020?
