Thats burnt out rings or the valves arent seating/ jumped time? This is a pushrod engine correcf?
Is it possible they used on of those "miracle" fluids that are basically supposed to buy you some time on a damaged engine? At this point, I'd ask the mechanic to save at least a couple ounces of engine oil for testing. Stop leak products use the same ingredients; those chemicals appearing in a lab test would be very embarrassing and impossible to explain.

It sucks, but I think you need to give them a chance to make it right, no matter how twisted up you are. They may surprise you. Also, I can totally see the kid moving cars around the lot not noticing a damn thing, let alone smoke out the tailpipe. If you have kids, you know.

The owner is seeing if it’s too late to take my truck back. I don’t think they will be thrilled with the teardown quote which was just about as expensive as the remanufactured engine. Basically $9000-10k with labor. The mechanic said the teardown would be $4400 in labor alone before even seeing what all it needs. Mechanic said there is zero chance they wouldn’t have known, it pours smoke like a freight train. The owner claimed they drove it for 500-800 miles “testing it” before the sale. I am being super diplomatic at the moment as they still say they will make it right and I did technically purchase it as is. They offered a warranty, however I declined and told them I planned to get a Ford esp on it(little did I know I would need it when I signed the dotted line). In my opinion making it right would be giving me my truck back but I realize that may or may not be an option. Either way I don’t have a vehicle for who knows how long. The owner is a Ford guy and said he is shocked because he knows how good the trucks are and that he purchased the truck because how hard it is to find with low miles.

How is a 5 cylinder engine running so well??

The only thing you notice that there is a problem is that it smokes on startup.

None of this makes sense.

Exactly what the Mechanic said, he is shocked that it still has the power it does, basically bad rings or seals, that’s is causing enough blow by, so when the truck is cut off and back on it is burning that excess blow by oil off that has accumulated. I am not the professional mechanic, just relaying what he told me. He compression tested all the cylinders, 3 of which did not hold. He also said the spark plugs were pretty bad looking. His opinion is that despite the low mileage, there is a strong chance the last owners did not change the oil frequently enough over the last 10 years. Just his assumption though based on the fact the rings and seals having failed on such a low mileage truck. He confirmed again the head gasket to be good.

I think it would be hard to cover this up. Something happened after 2 hours of driving. Anything can happen like the raptor R getting in an accident leaving the dealer.

Which is it no or low compression? which cylinders? One bank or both? Maybe a phaser is not closing properly causing slightly off timing in 3 cylinders if on the same bank

I don’t know those answers, again I am telling you what was told to my by an independent mechanic, had no ties to him before this incident. Simply was told to find a reputable mechanic to have it diagnosed and that’s what he relayed to me. If they ask me to get a second opinion I certainly will.

What cam phasers? He’s talking a 6.2 V8 if I’m not mistaken.
