I think you need to take a break from this thread, for your mental health. Your truck sounds nothing like that latter one. Mine has sounded like yours since new, as far as I can tell, over 36k miles now.
I have been around, and frequently driven, a truck that has the phaser rattle on cold starts. You don't have it.
Did I ever say I have the issue? Did I ever say my truck sounds as bad as the latter? What did I post? Yeaaaaahhhh... go ahead and reread the posts for the answers!
And yes. I will go MENTAL if my
SIXTY THOUSAND DOLLAR truck needs engine repair directly out of the factory. Derp.
After watching your video again, I am curious as to the sound you and other have identified as a suspect phaser rattle. Upon startup, the PCM runs a Self-Test which consists of actuating multiple engine related systems; one of those systems is the turbocharger wastegates. Maybe try observing the wastegates through the fender well on a cold start and see if the movement of the electronic actuator aligns with the noise your hearing? Just a thought.
At this point, all I've said was that my video SOUNDS exactly like the rattle, just scaled down. And I have said and agreed that, at this point, what I'm hearing may be normal since I have no idea what a non-busted, normal cold soaked (1-2 days) cam phaser sounds like.
Also, I appreciate your input and help. And again, I'm not saying I have the issue. I can see where I am making the comparison and most others are like "THAT'S NOT IT MAN!". Yeah I get it. The "concerned" sound is WAY louder and more dramatic than that sound in my video. Agreed. But you can't deny that the sound in my video is a much scaled down version of the same "concerned" sound. Not issue. SOUND.
BTW, I'll observe in the fender area upon cold startup and let you know...[/QUOTE]
