I (and I am not saquatch thank you very much) never said the phaser part number never changed. It has changed quite a few times over the years because ford can't figure out the design for it.

Phaser rattle does get progressively louder/worse, not longer. That has been repeated here several times, so I am not sure where you are coming up with your information.

Again, if you look through the different threads on this topic, you will find many people that were told by the service center to bring it back when it gets louder. It was not waiting for the out of stock parts.... it was that initially service centers were not thinking the sound was the phaser failing. Once it got louder and louder, they knew they had to replace.

If you truly are a Ford tech, I would never allow you to work on my stuff.

None of what you've posted or provided is anything but fact and more hearsay and conjecture.

What source are you citing as fact the "It has changed quite a few times over the years because ford can't figure out the design for it."
Ford bulletin? NHTSB? Last verified part number change was April of 2019 IIRC.

"Phaser rattle does get progressively louder/worse, not longer. That has been repeated here several times, so I am not sure where you are coming up with your information."

This is factually incorrect. The cam either locks or it doesn't. It does not kinda lock. Sound is relative to temp, peoples perception and memory. I am not saying they didn't HEAR it as being different, I am saying that sound, is subjective.

"many people that were told by the service center to bring it back when it gets louder. It was not waiting for the out of stock parts.... it was that initially service centers were not thinking the sound was the phaser failing. "

What? told to bring it back when it gets louder because they didn't think it was the phaser failing? huh?

"Once it got louder and louder, they knew they had to replace."

People are told all sorts of things from the service department, tech, manager, owner etc. Unless it's in writing, it means nothing.

"If you truly are a Ford tech, I would never allow you to work on my stuff."
You are probably the only one that believes this. He is in a far better position to know facts than a forum warrior. He posts facts. you post option.

you guys got even me scared now.......and I have been one of the biggest...."It's a non issue" people here.

My cold starts are getting louder and louder. They quiet down 10-12 seconds after start up. It is not the full "CLACK_CLACK_CLACK" i have herd in some videos, but there is a loud ticking.

I am just going to keep an eye on it and make a few recordings.

Sound varies based on air density, temperature, oil weight, viscosity, heaters, injectors etc. These are not Mercedes level sounds.

I would do this.

Turn off any auto features like Auto Heat and seats.
Stand in the same spot and remote start your truck.
Time it
Record it
get the air temp

do this over a few days.

You will find that it's louder on colder days.

A lot happens with these motors when they first fire. Assuming you're in STL and park outside, You're going to hear a lot more valve noise that I do in Los Angeles.

The sound is very specific like a Diesel engine and is very loud and consistent.

Have you checked your engine oil level recently?

Definitely record it, and take to the dealer so that they note it. This is something that will get louder with time and then it gets to the point of failure. If it fails, things go all out of time and then bad things happen. Get it handled soon. Be advised that the people with parts post-April still have the same issue. Even with the various part number changes, Ford still has not fixed this. The Q4 TSB with the yet-again revised parts never happened. So, ford is still building engines that will still have cam phaser failures.

FALSE

What are these part numbers?

"The Q4 TSB with the yet-again revised parts never happened."

Who said there was going to be a Q4 TSB? Ford or some dealership with no facts to back it up?

normally...i garage park, so i do here sounds because it is so close to the wall and that tends to make it sound loud.

This is over Christmas parking outside and a 30 degree start up. Oil is fresh, less then 2k miles and at proper level.
