Two weeks ago yesterday I picked up my silver super crew- have been smiling ever since. until last night.

I was sitting in the truck in a parking lot with my 2 year old while the wife and 4 year old bought a pair of boots. Next thing I know I hear a loud bang and my head hits the side of the car seat.

Long story short, an old lady came out of nowhere and hit us at almost a perfect 45 degree angle on the rear driver's side. The damage was pretty amazing- her whole rear end was crumpled in; when the police officer pulled her car off of the truck, we were all blown away to see that, as best as I can tell, there is literally not a scratch on the truck.

I put an amp bedstep on the truck last week, and it appears that it took 100% of the impact. Here is my question: the back of the truck, while in park, was knocked roughly three feet sideways. I assume there is a chance of structural damage. Where should I be looking? It seems to drive fine. Nothing would please me more for you all to call me out and tell me I am whining/worrying about nothing!

Considering how flimsy those rear bumpers are (I know from experience) that is quite a shock. It's pretty funny a couple people didn't even realize you did post the photo. It looks like the ground was wet? If it was, and all the impact was on that small area of the bumper, I'd look to see if the bumper shifted over to the other side. The photo looks like it didn't move at all. I think you got lucky as hell and no damage.

I would run my hand around every space between the bumper and bed...if the gaps are the same on the left and right side, I think you're ok.

Appears the deck lid of the car absorbed the majority of the energy, and the rest transferred to your truck and pushed it to the side. Your tires have the least amount of side grip, plus it looks like the road surface is wet...so rather than bending anything on your truck, it appears the tires losing grip and sliding sideways 3 feet, saved you from damage.

To move a Raptor three feet she must have hit you hard. This was in a parking lot you sat? Wow.

Thank you all for the responses. I took it to a well respected body shop and, after a surprisingly low amount of analysis, they concluded there was no issue. Also took it to the dealer and after a bit more looking they concluded the same. I'm taking it to my local shop on Monday- the owner used to be the head Ford trouble shooter on the east coast so once I get his sign off I guess I will be OK. The body shop advised I should file a claim with my insurance so that in the event things start happening in six months I have back up, so I've done that. He said you will notice stuff like very uneven brake pad wear.

Also, I posted the pics a few minutes after I posted the post, so that's why folks were asking for them.

Mad Max- Thank you for your suggestion. I have done as you have suggested and it looks like it lines up the same, but its very hard to tell if there is some slight variation. You are correct that the ground was wet- just a light rain for a few minutes to pull the oils out of the tarmac. I think your analysis of the physics is probably straight on.

Battle Born- I was sitting in the back between two car seats, both of which sit pretty high. My son was in the left one and I was reading to him so my head was down some. As to the lady, this goes back to things you wish you could do differently. As soon as I realized what had happened I jumped out the passenger side door and ran around the truck, pretty hot; I thought there was a good chance whoever hit us would just punch it and try to get away. That was not the case. She was an older lady. I did not yell or anything, but I regret that I was a lot more worried about my truck than whether she was OK. I asked her if she knew what had happened and she shook her head. I said "well you just crashed into my truck" and she nodded. I said "OK, well I guess we better exchange information." So I went back around and got mine, and as I came back to her I could see she was having a ton of trouble just getting out of the car, so I decided there is no doubt about this, I am just calling the police, and I said "why don't you just stay put and I will call 911." I did so, and explained we needed an officer. I went back and told her they would be just a minute. She didn't really respond. So I went back around the truck and started trying to placate the 2 year old. Maybe 45 seconds later a car stops near us and a young couple walk very quickly towards us. I am thinking "great, the son is here and I can deal with him." I walk back around the truck towards them and as I come around the lady is splayed out on the ground. We all rush over to her as about 10 other random people do as well. The young couple was not a relative, they just saw her tumble. I call 911 again and say this time I also need an ambulance. About 10 seconds later an ambulance and the police show up. The consensus was she probably had a stroke or some other serious condition, and that is what caused her to plow into me, then be unable to really communicate with me, and then fall.

We all like our stuff but I'd feel like a better human being today if I'd worried more about her than it.

It is easy for us to get emotional about our vehicles...afterall, that's why we bought a Raptor to begin with! Glad everything checked out good with the body shop and hope the lady is ok.
