Event Data recorders are federally required inside all vehicles since 2012. The device looks like a small box, the size of an iPod. It's usually placed under the front row seats, most often under the driver's seat or the central console. This is exactly where it is located in the 2021 Raptor. I had to remove the front seat and center console to get at it. Once removed, several error messages appeared on the dash, but a buddy found a work around. He disabled it before he re-installed the device. FYI, the data is required to be saved for a minimum of 30 days and is designed to be remotely downloaded.

EDR's are in cars to track crash safety data much like a Flight Recorder in an airplane. Im assuming you believe they are tracking your every move and driving habits. I get the awareness but not everything is nefarious. You may have disabled the EDR in the truck but I'm sure you have a smart phone relaying far more data than a EDR in your pocket for 90% of your day. Grab a hammer and get rid of that tracker too.

If I'm disabling my "black box", doesn't that seem like I assume I'm going to be at fault? I want mine functioning, same reason I have a dashcam. If I'm stupid, it's on me. If they are stupid, it's on them. I'd rather have the evidence then a he said/she said and I'm also willing to accept consequences for my decisions, even if they were bad ones.

That said, I'm not interested in the facial tracking stuff. I don't need my vehicle deciding I'm too sleepy or distracted to drive and tattling on me, which is where we're heading with this tech and the laws mandating it in the future.
