If I'm disabling my "black box", doesn't that seem like I assume I'm going to be at fault? I want mine functioning, same reason I have a dashcam. If I'm stupid, it's on me. If they are stupid, it's on them. I'd rather have the evidence then a he said/she said and I'm also willing to accept consequences for my decisions, even if they were bad ones.

That said, I'm not interested in the facial tracking stuff. I don't need my vehicle deciding I'm too sleepy or distracted to drive and tattling on me, which is where we're heading with this tech and the laws mandating it in the future.
It is about individual tolerance. I tracked drug dealers with much less sophisticated methods. However now any kid with a tech savvy brain can see and hear the occupants in real time. When combined with AI, a person can easily be targeted for whatever. An iPhone can be covered with aluminum foil, but not a truck. Nobody is perfect all the time and in todays world, there are many people that get off on making other people miserable. Bottomline, in my opinion, big brother has gotten too big. I simply put the information out for people to make informed decisions.

None of which has shit to do with the data recorder, which is specifically what I addressed, but you do you. I'm more concerned with the much more common occurrence of somebody lying about who was at fault in a crash than local urban yoots with tech skills seeing whatever you think they are seeing.

On the larger scale of what's coming with onboard monitoring, that's a concern we share.

First, any purpose to photograph me inside my truck is wrong. Secondly, an iPhone, when not used is in a purse, or pocket. if I pick my nose I would like to think it is not being filmed and will not be made public if “an event“ occurred. If my GF gave me road head, I would like to think it is not on film. I am just attempting to inform people what they may think is private, may not be private.
Didn’t head being filmed make Kim Kardashian a billionaire? Didn’t an awesome bj make Paris Hilton famous and richer than she already was? You gotta also look on the bright side. lol.

I don’t disagree with anyone who doesn’t want to be surveilled. You say when you are picking your nose your phone is not recording it as it’s in your pocket. Do you pick at home? Have cameras in house? Pick on the street? Cameras literally everywhere. I wonder how cops solved crime before cameras capture everything these days.

I’ve made it to my mid 60s with surveillance everywhere and it will continue to improve and become more ubiquitous if that’s even possible.

I have a dashcam. Have had one for many years. If I’m not at fault, great. If I am, unlike stalwart self deprecating people, I’ll ditch it.

Not to get into the weeds, but couldn’t this put you in a trick bag? Smart attorneys are going to begin, if they’re not already, asking during depositions if you had a dashcam in the vehicle during the incident. That leaves you with lying under oath, or admitting to destruction of evidence. It might be discoverable if Garmin or whichever manufacturer gets subpoenaed and they release your user account data showing you had a dashcam during those dates.

I could be wrong, but just thinking how this could play out.

Anybody look at their phone while taking a dump? Smile!
If I accidentally cover my front camera on my Android phone with my finger while just checking email or texts, a warning pops up to keep camera unobstructed. o_O

1998 Gene Hackman movie, ENEMY OF THE STATE.

EVERYTHING in that movie was 100% true. 20 years BEFORE that movie was made.

Prior to 2015, LE agencies were required to get a warrant to install a GPS and listening devices inside a vehicle. Currently anyone with a EDR scanner or VIN, computer and a cheap device (that I will not name), which can be purchased on the internet, can log into a 2020 vehicle, or newer, and record or watch live, audio and video inside the vehicle.
