At my age and zip code insurance on my 2010 is like $25 a month and I figure in a few years when the 6.2 goes I can swap in a supercharged 7.3 Godzilla and buy a used lightning for a DD.
I told Dodge dealer to put my name on the list for first-day order for 2023-2024 Dodge Demon. Won't be any more.

I think I would buy a used Lightning if I could find one for a reasonable price. I saw that Ford jacked up the MSRP of the Lightning for 2023.

Nothing against the vehicle itself, just the rollout of it. Outrageously priced, dealership games, unobtainable...just a lot of hard feelings. And did I mention outrageously priced? LOL. Just a damn ford truck, but folks acting like they'd sacrifice their firstborn to get their hands on one.
I can understand the disappointment of having to deal with the Ford dealerships - the majority of them are unscrupulous. And it sucks that it'll mostly be unobtainable, but that just speaks to the vehicle's desirability.

However, I can't see that it's outrageously priced. Would it be nice to have the option to get one with less equipment in the $90k range? Sure. But Ford is only building them fully equipped, and when you compare a fully equipped TRX at ~$100-102k MSRP, it seems to be priced appropriately - based on the factory MSRP. If I had to choose between a comparably equipped RAM truck and a Ford truck, I would choose the Ford, even at a 10% premium.

Now, I do admit that it's unlikely that many will get their hands on one for $110k, but that isn't really Ford's fault. The dealerships and supply/demand are causing the unacceptable premium. If you want to take issue with that, I can understand your view. But I can't say the truck has been outrageously or even over priced by Ford.

I like that they left it plain. Want it looking like a matchbox car? get a Shelby one. Ordered mine in Avalanche, same color as the freeway. Nothing to see here officer…. I will admit I use my raptors the way they are intended only a few weeks of the year but it will be hard to do the same with this truck, might have go back and try and find a Gen1 for that duty.

Frenzy may never be over
I know. With gen 3 production numbers going down because of the R, it could be bad for a while. I'm thinking MY2025 will be my best shot. The wildcard is when does Ford announce the end of the ICE Raptor? That's gonna cause another feeding frenzy, but this time I might be fighting for a place. We'll see. Could easily be a recession coming, too, and gen 3s for invoice. Interesting times. The good news is that I'm not in a hurry and I could live with a powerboost F150 Tremor, so if push comes to shove, I have a backup plan.

While there are countless reasons I wouldn’t give Dodge $1 of my money, I likewise wouldn’t give a Ford stealership an ADM donation of $20k+ for an R or a Gen 3 for that matter. At this point, I either wait for Gen 3 ADM’s to come down and trade in my 2019 or pull the trigger on the Velociraptor Kit Quote I received and give Hennessy that $20k ($19k and change) instead of donating it any of the ADM Hungry stealerships near me who are selling Gen 3’s for $101k+.
