Any negatives to removing the spare under the bed?

That's a bold assumption of yours @Donmatteo; I don't recall posting anything about affordability?
That's fair. However you said you would rather remove the spare than keep the 35 tire (without saying if you would/could replace the tire), buy a 37 tire, or buy a matching wheel/tire for the R wheels.

The stupid / cheap option is removal all together

The 37 is 6.3 inches more circumference than the 35. So one tire will be slipping or the differential will be slipping the whole time it’s on there.
If you were in that situation, put the smaller tire on the front and stay in 2 wheel drive.

You can keep the existing spare wheel and just swap to a 37" tire on it - it will still fit under the bed just fine.

And while not ideal, you could run a 35" tire on a front wheel, in 2 wheel drive to at least get you off the trail - so I would say it is better than nothing at all.
This- my sister had a Jeep patriot & when her tires were shot had her order a set that was essentially 1” larger as they fit easily & helped the ride quite a bit (very common swap on that suv) she did get a flat @ one point & remembered what I told her make sure you keep it in 2wd & whether the flat is on the rear or the front, you make sure the smaller spare tire goes on the rear (patriot was fwd based) - I wound up mounting the spare for her & unfortunately did have to rotate to the front b/c the flat was in front but having the donut on the rear w/ 3 other tires that were 1” bigger didn’t seem to effect it at all for the short time it was on

The only thing I could think of would be a minor weight savings (70 lbs maybe?) but that might cause more forward rake on the truck's stance?
Interesting point - I think the stock rim/tire setup is much more than 70lbs

They say for every 100 pounds of weight you remove from a vehicle, you can expect to gain roughly a tenth of a second in a quarter-mile time

Not that we’re living. Quarter mile at a time but it could be fun - although you lose that weight off the rear so less traction as well ( to a point)
