That's mighty interesting physics. The temperature in the engine compartment heats the tube, and the tube is expected to cool itself by radiating heat into the very environment that heated it. Whoever made that up needs to be in either politics or marketing. Well, they probably are in marketing.

The only way for the intake tube to radiate heat is into the intake air moving inside it. Moving air can move a lot of heat. To limit the amount of heat the intake air absorbs, what can be done? Insulate it? Naaa, too easy.

Well good for you for not reading! The AFE Has a metal tube that gets hot, A friend of mine has the K&N with cheap looking plastic and guess what that thing gets hot as hell!
So which one do you have that's so great smarty pants?

I never said the AFE was a true CAI either, any intake that uses a metal tube isn't as good as one with a plastic or fiberglass tube.

Yes any intake will reach temps ambient to engine bay temperatures, but the metal one will hold it longer than the plastic, and get hotter quicker than the plastic.

Realistically will either make any bit of difference on performance? In a 6k lb 15 second truck....no. But if you want to argue the INGEN is sooooooo much better than others, well it's bogus. If you want to get to the nitty gritty details, it has downfalls as well.

justvettn, looks like the air meter is located quite a ways up the intake tube, is that right? How much closer to the TB is it? Will you measure it and let me know... thanks
