Not sure about the fit as Jake pointed out. But I've seen guys paint that section black to mimic the appliqué look.

Looks like he did. The pic is a 17 and the applique won't work on an 18 because of the F-150 stamping. Seems the only way to do it is replace the entire tailgate if you really want the applique. Sad part about this is the applique was a $500 option on the 17's but is included at no charge on the 18's with option to delete, but no credit.
