I don't drive my truck a great deal but since I installed the 91 Octane tune up, my truck shift cycles at 40MPH under light throttle. Several of the shifts seem to flare and the truck as of right now is not much fun to drive. This is not a slam 5 Star thread but trying to understand why my new truck exhibits issues that others are not. I have put about 1K miles on it since I installed the tuner but I can't continue with it like this. The truck has no issues when the stock tune up is installed.

I have been traveling for work but I will also be contacting 5 Star to let them know what the issue is. No other mods to this truck as far as engine but I do have 35 Wildpeaks on it.
Do you know which 91 tune you are using (eco, performance, tow)? Which engine do you have?

I have the 91 performance tune with 3 degrees global spark. I use 93 octane fuel. If I change to the 87 Octane performance tune up then the issue goes away.

Mike sent me a new tune up to re-enable torque management but I have not loaded it since I feel it is only masking the issue and defeats the purpose of the high performance tune up. I have a good understanding of engine calibrations on the GM side but I just haven't really been interested in Ford tuning yet. I may try another tuner or see what's available for custom tuning.

After you change a tune how many miles do you have to drive before you can get the truck inspected? I tried this weekend and the tech told me he was getting incomplete data on four areas of the test

Peter, it's the readiness codes that need to be set. If your battery had been disconnected it will set them to "not ready status". The tune doesn't affect theses. There is a specific driving sequence that you have to do to get them to be in a "ready" status. It had nothing to do with how many miles you drive, but how you drive those miles.

I have yo see if I can find the sequence and post it.

Yukon, I was told by SVT and Whipple our new PCM (2010 1/2 and up) do not need to do this procedure.

That procedure was for 2009 and earlier.

But hey, if it works what the hell.

Load the Tune and then disconnect the battery.

It was the only way I was able to reset the readiness codes to ready status.

My wife and I drove around for two days with the add can tool connected to the truck and they kept saying "not ready". We had over 100 miles on the truck. Once we found the drive cycle it started to clear the codes as we drove the way it recommended. I was then able to pass state emissions inspection.

Here is the drive cycle.

GREAT LAKES RAPTOR EXCURSIONS

thanks for posting this. so I have to do this with the 91 perf tune on to get it ready for emissions, or can I just load the stock tune and go to get it checked. list seems like a PITA.

I hear you, it might because your using SCT software for Tunes that you may have to go that route. Just guessing now.

Or you just put enough miles on it by then?
I've read in the Mustang forums that since we have the wideband PCM you would need to do more then one drive cycle, 3 all together.
So that comes to 150 miles.
Don't know for sure if that pertains to the Raptor but most SCT Tunes files are from the GT500.

Not 100% sure. I had the stock tune on at the time cause I wanted to be sure to pass. I had no check engine lights either.
Next time I'm at my dad's shop (he has the scan tool) I'm going to rescan it to see if they are all in ready status. If they are, an emissions test wouldn't care what tune is on the truck.
