I love the look of these things but after TRR, I'm having some concerns on durability. They might have been flukes but a few people's rings had gone out and there was water intrusion on 2 that I know of (I don't think those were Dawson's).

Are these lights fairly maintenance intensive? I'd be curious how many have had issues...

Again, Dawson, is a true artist and these lights look amazing. I just don't want something that I'm going to have to be replacing every couple years. Maybe that's just the nature of these beasts?

One thing to keep in mind about the amber rings, you have to wire them yourself. I had one go out at Little Sahara. But it was due to my wiring. I've since upgrade to water proof plugs.

Also, Dawson offers a 2 year warranty.

Thanks for bringing that up, All the new rings come with water tight quick disconnects already installed. Im also making a small wire harness to power the rings. It connects to the pass through wires and grounds where the ballast do. If anyone needs one with your purchase just let me know.

Making the pass through wires hot is still the customers responsibility. :help:That's always my favorite part of a install, lol.

I will chime in on this subject.. I have had all versions of (bling) rings.. The latest generation is by far the best.. As far as leaks, dust and build quality. Raptor Retrofit are second to none.. I have not had any issues directly relating to Dawsons craftsmanship. Yes, there have been issues with products from TRS (out of Dawsons control). EVERY single time Dawson has gone out of way to replace/upgrade failing TRS parts.

Since I am the worst cause scenario test mule for Raptor Retrofit products. I have been impressed with the improvements in each and every generation. That is why I am still using his HID products!

Good concerns bro, Ill try to address some of your concerns. In all honesty the 1.0 rings were nothing but a pain in the ass. Ive replaced close to 30% of the ones I sold. They were a brand new technology and we found out after a few months the weaknesses. The 2.0 rings were much better, no burning out led's but there were some aesthetic design issues with them so I am now installing the 3.0 rings which just came out. They are brighter then the 1.0 and the wires exit out the back for a clean install. All that said, they are really just there for "bling" the true gain in performance from the HID's is whats important.

If your looking for reliability I recommend the OEM 2013's. With any aftermarket product reliability is just not the same as a OEM component. As a example if a OEM component will last 10 years the equivalent aftermarket component may last 7 but aftermarket products are almost always cheaper the OEM so its a give and take. As you said, thats pretty much just comes with the territory on any type of aftermarket modification. Theres always a balance between increased performance, reliability and price.

TRS, they company I source all my parts from is constantly developing their products in the attempt to reach or exceed oem quality. The bulbs and ballast they sell are now just that. I actually just got a sneak peak of the new ballast to be released in a few months, they have almost zero fire up time, meaning from when they are turned on the bulbs are at full brightness instantly.

Thanks for explaining all that dude. My concerns have been greatly alleviated.
Upon further thought, I'd be willing to accept a certain degree of pain-in-the-ass with these lights anyway cause they look amazing.

No problem bro. I have lots of clients who don't even want the rings which is refreshing for me because I know they are all about the performance.

We should be at a point now with the 3rd gen rings that they are solid for the life of the light. It pains me to say it but the rings really do add a coolness factor. Hell I wouldn't build a set for myself without them, hahaha.

I've had other aftermarket HIDS and then I smartened up and went with Raptor Retrofit!

As Greg said, Dawson does an awesome job and workmanship is second to none!

I've had an issue or two but I wouldn't want any body else handling my concerns! Dawson takes care if his customers without hesitation or question

You get what you pay for and his creations are top of the food chain.

I know we have been talking about issues with the older LEDs and how the 1.0 didn't hack it. Well I got my lights after TRR 2012 and my LEDs are burnt out. I think Dawson and I talked about it and confirmed it is the 1.0 version. Now its no fault to Dawson that they burnt out, but I did want to make very clear to people that this IS NOT entitled to a return shipping label to him although he does cover shipping back to the owner. I have yet to ship my lights back 100% for this fact and more or less waiting for the better stuff to come out (glad I waited for the 3.0 it sounds like) to not have to get hit with shipping again.

So for me thinking the 50 dollar upgrade for the LED rings to be covered for 2 years is kind of misleading when the Warranty policy on the website goes over shipping issues a few times.

Warranty Policy
We offer a full 2 year warranty on any product sold. If a ballast or relay were to fail we will overnight you a replacement part first along with a return shipping label for the defective part, no questions asked. Other retrofit companies will have you send them the part first then issue a replacement.

We also guarantee the quality of our work. If for any reason you are unhappy with your retro, we will work with you to get it right by offering a free replacement. If you decide not to keep the retro we will send a prepaid shipping label and a full refund when we receive the lights.
