that sucks. So glad I have MBI with Geico. Inexpensive coverage up to 7 yrs/100k miles. That repair would cost me $250 out of pocket.
Thats a good one, i bough mine used but as a cost comparison i wonder price diff vs. Ford ESP. Also their approval denial process… maybe you can report back .

It’s available coverage for new vehicles and I think used under a year old, perhaps a mileage limit. Not sure. It’s maybe 150-300 a year and there is no denial, also no premium raise for using it. I’ve had it (mechanical breakdown insurance or MBI), for over 25 years and have used it over and over. Here’s a brief list:

manual transmission and clutch on my son’s Mazda 3, 15 years ago, $4500, I paid $250.

AC compressor on Dodge van.

Drive shaft on VW Touareg at 112k miles. Denied as over 100k. However, early on, and this was around 2008, there was no mileage or yr limit. They changed that to 100k or 7 years. I told them they never notified me which was true. They couldn’t prove they did and they paid for it.

DVD hard drive on NAV system on Acura MDX. 1500, I paid the 250 deductible.

They pay the dealer or repair shop via their credit card. They reserve right to supply parts but rarely do.

I could go on. And other than being a Geico customer for over 30 years (and they are not the cheapest), I have zero connection.

I hear ya. cars, trucks, etc, have become much more reliable. I haven’t used it in over a decade although I’ve had it on every vehicle I’ve owned. One reason is I don’t keep them more than a year or two at most.
