Absoeffinglootly!!! Thats the reason a turbo is better. the 6.2 hits its peak tq(430) at 4500 rpm, the turbo 3.5 hits peak tq(365) at 2500 rpm. That the stock v6 and stock 6.2.
They are testing a V6 now whit 400+hp and 450tq now.

I recently posted the fact I sold my Raptor and bought my wife a new body style 15 Lincoln Navigator.... I plan to rejoin raptor in 16. At any rate it has a more powerful version of the 3.5 Eco. 380 HP/460 TQ Ours has 4:10 gears. It took me a bit to get the hang of the ECo but once you retrain your mind on how to operate the skinny peddle it is a monster. It has Lincoln Drive control which has 3 modes - sport, normal, comfort. Modifies suspension control and shift points. Sport mode is pretty amazing, it pulls like a beast. Sound is ridiculous, there literally isn't any. I'm sure the Lincoln has more sound deadening but at wide open throttle I feel there is more wind noise than engine. Very weird to experience, not a fan.

Like most of you i would prefer a screaming V8.... But if the option isn't there I don't think it will lack in power.

Bingo! It is in Ford's interest to keep secrets and encourage speculation with silence. It's a marketing gimmick.

I don't think you can shave 1500 pounds off the Raptor with merely a smaller alloy block engine and alloy body panels. The only way to lose that much weight is to lighten the frame, and I just don't see them doing that. They'd catch hell from their target market, and they know it.

Like many, I don't foresee a V6, either. DezertRacer and M65D Raptor may be right - a turbocharged 5.0L. But if so, I think Ford would be inspired to update the 5.0L. Why put an old engine in a brand new truck? I don't know that much about the current 5.0L, but I'm thinking that independent intake and exhaust variable valve timing would be something that they might consider. What else might they do to it???

Is direct injection ready for prime time?

I went to LA auto show this weekend. Thought I'd be blown away by the new F150, but although its a nice truck, I was underwhelmed. It really looks almost identical to the outgoing truck, and the interior isn't as nice as I'd hoped. But I think when the Raptor version comes out, it will be great.

Chevrolet had their Colorado based "Raptor fighter". Not much to say about that, but if I were one of the GM brass, people would be getting fired.

2016 Raptor Engine Choice

I haven't seen another thread specifically discussing this, but I wanted to get other people's thoughts on the new Raptor's engine choice. I know there's a lot of speculation that Ford is going to use the EcoBoost, but is that really going to happen? When you look at the numbers on the 2016 Shelby Mustang, those V-8 numbers are ridiculous. Most of the team that built and designed the Shelby Mustang is the same group that developed the Raptor. So I don't see how they could put a V-8 like that in the Shelby, and not do something similar in the Raptor? Gas is continuing to drop, and I've read reports saying that gas will clearly be under $2.00 in the south by next year. When you look at a fully loaded 2015 F-150 with 4x4, the gas numbers really aren't much different. It's not like your going to get MPG in the upper 20's like a Ram EcoDiesel. So the weight will make a big difference, but I think most people would prefer to have a bigger engine because fuel economy is nice, but that's not why you drive a Raptor. I know I'm biased, but the best vehicles on the road today still have the big V-8 engines, hence why their doing the 2016 Shelby with a V-8. I'm not knocking the EcoBoost, but there's a reason why many luxury, and sport vehicles still run the big V-8's. Like to hear feedback!

Unfortunately the Raptor engine choice was made long before the recent decline of oil. I only hope we have a V8 Option! Ford give me a supercharged 5.0 Coyote with 300-600 lbs less weight with 4-6 more inches of suspension travel and I'll send you a deposit.

I'd expect a travel Bump but not that much.

I'm expecting a price bump too. Like close to 70.

A forced induction 5.0 would be cool...

Agree on the price bump! It will be interesting to see how a 70K Raptor will sell.

I could see a 5000 lbs Raptor, with no options. 4600 lbs is way to close to the 4300+ lbs mark that the smaller trucks come in at.

It will be interesting to see if they offer multiple engine packages, however I can see it only being Ecoboost powered. The fact is 2025 is coming, manufactures are scrambling to cut weight and meet CAFE standards.

I know Chrysler is freaking out about the new F150.

The success of the Ecoboost, and the weight savings of the Alumnium body are the saving grace of vehicles like the Raptor. The Ecoboost was one of the primary reasons Ford was able to do a more exotic one off powerplant for the GT350.

People are getting a ton of power out of the 2015 Mustang 5.0L, it would be a nice option for people who are concerned about the FI EB engines even though they seem to do just fine in the Desert, powering Raptor test vehicles.

A good friend of mine has seen the 2015 F150 in 2014 Raptor panel after coming home from the Rouge Plant. It made turbo noises.
