I listened to a 2018 today with B&O system and I would say it sounded about 20% better then the 17 Sony system.

What was 20% better about it, kind of meaningless without quantifying the difference.

better mid range, better low freq bass, and less distortion at max...not a night and day difference...20% or so.

If I had to guess, B&O simply goosed the default equalizer settings the same way Beats boosts the base to trick people into thinking they are better headphones than they really are.

It would be difficult to make anything but an incremental improvement with the same budget, number of speakers, and location as the Sony system. But if people love their B&O system, that's great for them because their opinion is the only one that matters to their enjoyment.

It amazes me that I test drove a 17 ram 1500 bighorn yesterday with the alpine stereo in it and it sounded way better then the 17 or 18 Raptor.

Why did you trade so soon? Just curious.

My dealer gave me damned near what I paid for my 2017 on trade towards a 2018. I buy several vehicles from them a year, so they made me an offer that I couldn't pass up.

By "clearly designed" do you mean the new B&O speaker has a bigger magnet and they had to raise it to keep it from hitting something inside the dash because that was the easiest and cheapest solution? Then yes, I suppose that is unacceptable. Not because this is an elite vehicle, but because that's just poor planning. If you think that it was "clearly designed" to improve the sound of the speaker, then your delusional. There isn't that much engineering in the sound systems in these trucks.

You are absolutely correct. They should have built a taller dash for 2018 so as to not interrupt the flat lines of the 2017 dash....

Not sure about that, but using a speaker thar fits in the opening isn't unreasonable. Raising the grill to get clearance is the kind of solution you'd exoect from one of those $1 install shops, not a auto manufacturer. Calling it "clearly designed" is like calling the bolt on reverse lights on a Yugo brilliant enineering. Ford took possibly the laziest route to solving a simple problem.

B&O contractor. Yup all done here, doesn't quite fit but hey it's close enough.

Ford designer: guys that speaker looks terrible like that in the dash. We need to redesign the dash to for a good fit.

Ford engineer: yeah it does look terrible, you draw up the design send to me and I'll get started on the structural durability.

Ford performance: can we put a V8 in it yet?

Ford marketing: that's going to defiantly going to be an issue for first time luxury truck buyers.

Ford comptroller. It will cost a lot of money to change the dash.

Ford analyst: it won't affect sales--put into production.

Ford customer: that speaker looks terrible

Ford Salesman: IT LOOKS GREAT and it comes with 450hp and 510 torque and it's only 5k over MSRP.

Ford customer I'LL TAKE IT
