This is my first run up there so I'll go with whom ever advice is plausible

Last thing I want to do is go under my truck trying to get a tire out in snow.......I will go with a side of caution

If a couple guys are interested, WSI will make a simple tire carrier to fit under your Raptors tonneau.

I would be interested. Same type of design using the bed bolts to hold it down, wide enough to hold fuel and/or tote, Tire in the center laying at a slight angle

I did order the Bakflip VP.....Not to worried about access

Fair enough. I did an event, did and still am having a problem with insurance due to a "placard" on a raptor. It's never a problem until it is.

Trey you tried to warn them !

What about CB radios? You can get them in handheld or make quick mount for them in the truck

wont work

CB is also a totally different Freq than VHF. I think there are a couple radios that will do both but you have to have two different antenna. VHF is the way to go for our applications.

Part of me wants a truck mounted VHF but the fact that you can walk around and still talk might be key to this trip. As I could stop the truck get out and still point out hazards and stuff.

Dude, you need a 100 watt radio. 50 watt minimum, and a hand held if your out of truck. And a sat phone. The more I read about this the more of a mess I see happening.

Cool you did 480 miles in one day with the ability to do over 100 in the desert. I doubt most trucks will be over 50mph 99% of this run. So I'm not really sure what your point is.

No need for a Sat phone as again this isn't the desert and the most we will be out of cell range is maybe 10 mins.

This is a bit different than running in the desert. Register and come on up I bet you'll have fun.

Here is the possible lawn dart video...

Kelly's Jump on the Land Rush 1000 Oct '12 - YouTube

Even though Kelly fractured his L2 vertebra on this jump. He is in high spirits and expected to make a full recovery in 6-8 weeks.

480 miles in snow/ice toootally different then speeding across the desert..
-Greg

Thanks Gregg, we were out front at the time. Info was scattered at best and I'm not one to spread info that is wrong.

yes snow will be much slower

most of the speeds were well UNDER 100 mph usually 40 mph to 60 mph as terrain permits, damage and vehicle control gets scarey above those speeds, especially with varried driver experience. Repairs took a great deal of time also

I will also take the time to invite you on a Raptor Expedition to enjoy the South West desert

My point would be I like to go fast on rough dirt Desert Racing

So your telling me no cell phone service for 10 minutes is acceptable safety for you ? You wont most likely have a "high speed" problem but you are dealing with very slippery and unseen dangers. My concern is safety, not knocking anyone. I want everyone to have a great time and not over drive their trucks, and mostly NO INJURYS !

I no issues with the fact that you like to do "high speed desert racing" but not everyone has the funds or time off to drive or ship there truck 2000 miles so we have to make do. We all know that during the landrush you guys did 500 miles a day. That's awesome and sounds like a great time.

As far as the cell phone lack of cell phone coverage is alway an issue but minor issue that we can/have figured out how to deal with.

As far as safety, I would argue this will be one of the safest raptor runs. Why? Stock trucks are prerunning it on roads that I have traveled many many times.. Also a damn near a stock truck is setting the pace. Not a long travel raptor or two, leaving stock owners thinking that they can keep up.. while I can't control everything like amount of snow etc, I do control what roads we take and how fast the group is traveling. I am shooting for a 0% incident rate during this run.

I invite you again to sign up and experience Michigan's upper peninsula in January.
