There's also the unasked question: Is the oil in the truck what it says on the sheet? That time I did the boxes, I stopped the guy from putting in the cheap-ass no-name 30W oil as I was paying for the brand-name 10-40. How do you know what they really put in there? Did you watch?

Seriously, I think there's blame to go around because a ten second internet search would have steered you clear. I just did that with DuckDuckGo. 2.27/5 stars average rating. I didn't look for the horror stories, but I've heard enough from friends to know that they are abundant. And that brings up a related point. JL makes a hash of things fairly often. That's totally reasonable since the draw is dirt cheap service and they hire dirt cheap labor. But. That means they need a kick-butt legal team. If you decide to pursue litigation, expect them to be far more competent in the courtroom than in the pit.

I'll ask the question,
Do you actually think FOMOCO has your best interest as heart when suggesting a oil for you vehicle? Things that make you go hmmmm.
FoMoCo has a financial incentive to keep the motors running for a reasonable amount of time, beyond warranty claims at least. Beyond that it’s customer expectations that set the bar. Not many will repurchase an expensive truck if the motor isn’t known to last at bare minimum 100k miles. Most buyers don’t keep them that long, but would still be very hesitant to buy if they knew the motors didn’t last. I find it interesting how well Gen2 raptors re-sell considering the cam phaser issue. It’s a damn big problem and people look the other way and buy the used trucks anyway.

Just one of the reasons I do it myself. I had the dealership change oil on my gen1 once, and when I got home I had to clean up the oil on my skidplate. Received 4 complimentary oil changes from ford for my gen2 and haven't used one of them. Don't know what brand oil they're pouring and they usually leave a mess. Good old flat rate.
Plus, I like to inspect things myself. Sure the drive line fluid levels are fine. What did they look like? Clean? Dirty? Contaminated? Burnt smell? Leaks? Everything look good?
But, I'm a mechanic by trade, so its easy for me to do this myself.

I’ve done oil changes since I was probably 15yo - my dad forced me to do it instead of watching the idiot box. I don’t know why I still do it - rolling around on the floor, disposing the oil etc.

I do believe that my vehicles last longer because I DIY oil changes. Regular maintenance - one person’s eyes/hands is key to the best care.

Just my $.02 - no offence.

I think they do if you leave vehicle stock. FORDs testing and torture testing is incredible when validating a engine.
Now when your start tuning and cranking up the boost plus beating on it throwing variables engine not validated with. My personal opinion 5w30 is a little on weak side for a tuned 3.5 eco. With the variable pressure oil pump plus narrow rod bearings.
Watch gale banks videos on synthetic oil lots of info .
Full synthetic means container is over 50 percent synthetic oil . Semi synthetic is under 50 % synthetic oil. Also can be diffrent percents there is no regulation .
100% synthetic oil is true synthetic oil. Motul and amsoil and redline are 100% synthetic oil.

At 20,000 miles I stepped up to Motul xcess 8100 5w40 and wix filters changed every 2500 miles. I'm on 2nd oil change now . Engine is running strong only 5 drips from my catch can every week no measurable oil loss on dipstick . I put a mark on dip stick with 6.5 quarts fill. Week to week it never moves off that line. What I run my truck is my personal choices. So don't take it as truth not looking for arguments.

You do it because you want it done correctly . The old saying oil is the life blood of the engine is very true .

I agree this is a good selection for a tuned 3.5, I think 5w40 is the way to go, especially for hard use cases.
